Mr Cameron
When there aren't many abbeys, convents and monasteries around, how would it be possible for me to discern a charism? I know I could read the writins of Carmelites, St Benedict, and the Trappists etc...but how else?
VeniJesuAmorMi
Yes, reading writings from the saints is always helpful! You could also write to different communites and I'm sure they would be happy to give you information about their life. It sounds like your at a good point to have a spiritual director. Do you have one? This would really help you to be on the right path. The internet has a lot of information that you may find helpful. You could research these different spiritualities and see perhaps where you fit best. Pray and ask The Holy Spirit to guide you.
PhuturePriest
Don't limit yourself to the surrounding area. I'm from Kansas, and I've discerned as far as New York to Ireland and England. Look at Monasteries even if they are far away. Even if you don't feel called to them, it is still very informative and good for your formation.
