Anastasia13
I am making a fried dish that needs breading. Is it better to make my own crumbs and dry them (toast them?) or to buy them-and if buy, what is the best brand?
EmilyAnn
I just make my own by putting bread in a food processor/blender. I've never tried it with toasted bread, I always just use regular bread and it's worked fine for me so far. They freeze pretty well too if you make too much. I prefer to make my own, I've bought ones before and find them kind of fake tasting.
Lil Red
make your own by chopping up in a food processor and then lay out on a baking sheet and toast in the over - won't take very long.
Anomaly
VIGO Italian Bread Crumbs are the best (in my opinion) store bought.

CatherineM
My mom used ritz crackers or even corn flakes. Both are great on pork chops.
AnneLine
Really doesn't matter which you use -- but you want to season yourself rather than get the pre-seasoned ones so you can control salt & flavors... I usually just toss a little low-calorie italian dressing (or olive oil & seasonings) on meats and then sprinkle with just a few bread crumbs (either dried out and/or toasted french if I have it available....) or some unseasoned Progresso or other commercial ones... That way I get the taste of breading without so many calories & carbs.... I agree Panko are the best but a little $$$ for me...
