So we had that whole yoga thread but this isn't just about yoga In this week's parish bulliton is..

"Seeking Wellness in Mind, Body and Spirit
A Program sponsored by.. (parishes in my area. Does showing the parishes = slander? anyway..)
We often find ourselves burdened with the pressures of
daily living and look for ways to relieve our stress. On
Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:30 (Parish, then yoga lady's name) will be making a presentation on “Yoga – Relaxing
into Wholeness.” (Yoga lady) will give us an introduction to
Yoga and how we can use the fundamentals of this art to
bring stillness to our lives. (yoga lady)will demonstrate
relaxation techniques that we can use and will help us
understand that we do have the ability to control the level
of stress in our lives. (Adults only, please)"

so I go to her website, and their services also include Reiki, Terot Reading, Astrology, and Crystal Ally Card Readings (whatever that is).

I'm iffy if they should be supporting her based on her other services alone.. what you guys think? and if I do contact the priest.. pray for me too because I really dont like confrontation and I want to come off as less confrontational as possible while at the same time showing my concerns.

Thanks !

Nihil Obstat

That is beyond sketchy. The fact that this person is also affiliated with Tarot reading, Reiki, astrology, and crystal junk is dangerous in and of itself.

Looks like she's not even trying to use yoga and relaxation and "wholeness" in a Christian context. If I were on the parish staff, I would definitely be raising a fuss.

Yeah, this one is definitely worth speaking out over. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, but this one would not be a bad choice. For one thing it is quite probably scandalous even by the strictest definition of the term.

I second the good luck, Reiki energy working has been a bit of a no-go with the Bishops semi-recently, but things like Tarot readings and astrology definitely fall under divination.

OK... I don't have too much of an issue with the yoga stretches as exercise (ok shoot me, open season on llamas....)

BUT when combined with any or all of the rest -- Tarot reading, Reiki, astrology, and crystal junk --

WAY WAY out of the OK zone. NOT ok stuff. And very, very dangerous to dabble in...

I wonder if anyone from the Parish checked out the website? Brother....

just to be clear.. I don't think "yoga lady" plans on combining the yoga with any of that stuff during this class but just the mere fact that she does offer those services is why I wondered if I should of said something. (Sort of like getting a breast cancer screening at a place that does abortions)

I'm not sure if there is not already an impression that yoga spiritual thinking will be used in the class, for example, "Seeking Wellness in Mind, Body and Spirit", and "Yoga – Relaxing into Wholeness".

What kind of, if any, spirituality will be taught in the class or used? Why does "spirit" have anything to do with yoga class, in a Catholic Church? Why use a term, Wholeness, that is deeply connected to using yoga as spiritual means?

Seems fishy.

ok so I just noticed something.. The "Services" part of the web page is no longer acceptable through the main page.. I found it via google which means it's possible that she no longer offers these services. (Which also explains why they haven't seen it themselves) . I wrote again and pointed this out but still showed a bit of caution. I would post the web site to show you what I Mean since it would no longer be in a state of slander but, I Still don't think I can per phatmass rules. Man this got interesting lol

The fact that she is involved in those 'other' practices implies, though admittedly without 100% accuracy, that she incorporates the same very much off limits spirituality aspects into her yoga as well.

Hyperbolic analogy:
Guy is a known bank robber. Robbed ten banks in the last year. Several dozen people injured or killed. He goes and buys an SMG and tells everyone it's for taking care of pests in his yard. Well I am more likely to think that it is a murderin' SMG.
Am I making assumptions? Yeah. Sue me.
