Trusting In God

Recommended Posts

Lately, I have been faced with putting trust in God's will. But, I have been so hesitant and it's weird. I DO trust God, but I find it hard to surrender to his will sometimes. I know what he wants of me but it seems so out of touch with reality that I find it so easy to resort to logic instead of faith. I'm being vague on purpose and don't feel the need to go into detail. But, does this happen to anyone else and would anyone like to provide any thoughts on this matter?

As nike says, just do it.

It's a conscious decision (I didn't say easy sometimes), to let God have control.

But no, we're human, so we must have control of everything. After a while, you figure out that's not the case. But I found in my own life, it didn't matter how many times I was told, I had to experience something that gave me no other choice than to trust God. Sometimes, that's what you need.

Praying for you.

**edit: Logic and faith don't contradict each other.

One thing to remember is that to have faith in God and to follow him IS logic. On a quick analysis of the two, think of it this way: Going against God's will is only going to lead you to unhappiness and an overwhelming feeling of emptiness. Having faith in God and doing what He wants will lead you to true happiness and fulfillment. So really, the illogical choice is to go against His will, not the other way around.

Basically, if I'm understanding God correctly. What he leads me to is going to have to be miraculous because it just wouldn't happen without divine intervention! LOL!

Annie, dear. Following God's will is the only place you will ever find freedom. Make sure you have a solid confessor or director to know you really DO know God's will, as you say you do. Then pray for the grace, then just follow through. I know it sounds simplistic, but from my experience and great many mistakes, the more complicated we make things the further I move away from God.

yes, that's very good advice. I guess more than anything I just need prayers right now! I feel like the further I progress on the journey the more I understand.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I have always accepted with my intellect that trusting in God is the only thing to do, but putting it into practice is another thing altogether. I have recently had some very concrete circumstances that required me to make a choice whether to trust Him or not. I feel as though He is leading me like a little child one step at a time and my pride tells me that's pathetic, but that's what He's doing. I have to actually say things like, "Lord, I'm abandoning myself completely to you in this matter", because it doesn't always come naturally, and depends on the circumstances. Reading good books on this subject helps as well. In the past reading "Abandonment to Divine Providence" by Fr. Caussade helped me a lot. Now I am finding much encouragment from "Divine Intimacy" by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen. What seems impossible to us is always possible for Him, but He won't give us something we are not ready for.

Agreed. And St Thomas Aquinas agrees.
But our faith will surpass our reason (logic). Our reason is only helpful so far as it is enlightened by faith.

I have experienced this so much in my discernment. My head knows I can and should trust Him but getting it to my heart and emotions is a whole other story. I too had to get to a place where I really had no choice but to trust Him. One book that helped me is I Believe in Love: A Personal Retreat Based on the Teachings of Saint Therese by Jean C. J. d'Elbee.
I will most assuredly be praying for you!
