OnlySunshine
Does anyone here have a Tablet PC that has internet capabilities and wi-fi? I'm going to California again soon and I am taking classes online. I will have to do some of my homework while I am at the hotel but I don't really want to lug my laptop with me if I don't have to -- especially since we are leaving our bags in a back room at the hotel the day we arrive (we will be there about 3 hours before check-in time). I'm looking for a tablet PC that is less than $100 and that is able to access internet so I can go on Blackboard to respond to discussions. The hotel has computers, but they only have two and they are used very often. I'd rather not risk waiting to use a computer when I need to do homework. The 32gb Playbook is going to be around $150. There is one we sell at Staples, the Coby Kyros, at around your ideal price range, but it gets very negative reviews and is probably not worth the money. It is more a media player than a browser. Apparently it is not particularly stable for web browsing. Really, the next price point from there is going to be $200-250. You can pick up a few of the different Samsung tablets in there, and those are good products. We sell an Acer at $250 as well. These are all Canadian prices. I do not know if they will be significantly different in American stores.
Nihil Obstat
Would an iPod Touch, or a lower priced smartphone potentially work? I know they have the wifi browsing capability. Just obviously significantly less power, which you are sacrificing anyway by going the tablet route.

[/quote] I have an iPod Touch but the area you type in is so small. I'm constantly typing wrong letters and we get graded off for spelling and grammar. The other route is to buy an internet capable eReader such as the Nook or Kindle.
CatherineM
How about a blue tooth keyboard for your touch? You can get one of those for less than $100.

Any stores nearby that have demos sitting out?

I'm also looking into the idea of getting a sleeve for my laptop so I can slip it into my carry-on luggage and lock it. All I have right now is a briefcase-style case and it's too bulky. We sell them at the store I work at and sometimes it seems like we get more back than what we sell. They aren't worth the money, no matter how cheap they are. cmaD2006
Did u check with the hotel? Sometimes they have a business center or maybe a single computer for guests to hop on. Edited September 29, 2012 by cmariadiaz
IcePrincessKRS
The Kindle Fire is $159, the HD Fire (for the smallest one) is $199. If you would like an e-reader that doubles as a tablet then I highly recommend either of those (yes, I have firsthand experience with them). If you have a cheaper way to go about it (like a keyboard as Catherine suggested) then I'd try that first if funds don't allow for anything much above $100. I don't really know of anything else firsthand, but I hope you find something that works well for you!

However, they are almost always in use. I'm not sure I want to hold out since two of my classes have discussion due dates the day we fly back home (Wednesday). The hotel has free wi-fi, though, so I could bring a wi-fi compatible device.
