Catholic In Good Standing

I'm interviewing for a job with a Diocese in another state. I've been living in one city while working at a temporary job and have maintained my membership at my old parish in the hopes that I would return when this job ended. I need to provide the name and contact of my pastor to prove that I am a Catholic in good standing. My pastor is on pilgrimage and will not return until mid-November. Do I give the contact for my parish (where I've been AWOL for 4 months) or do I give the contact for the parish I'm currently attending where they have no idea who I am. Both are large, metropolitan parishes. One is a Cathedral and the other is a Basilica. The advantage to my old parish is that the associate priest probably at least recognizes my name. I am confused as to what to do.

Yes, I just feel weird asking.

I wouldn't feel weird about it. It's a perfectly legit request. People ask this kind of thing all the time either to become a godparent or get married in a different parish etc etc...

You need to just ask ... it isn't a wierd thing. When I applied for admission into a program, I needed to get a letter from the pastor. Well -- I had just moved parishes due to a personal issue with a priest, yet the pastor at my new parish really hasn't seen me involved pastorally (he knew me for years though).

So ... I did something really weird. I asked the pastor at the Church I just left. He knew the situation well, and knew it wasn't due to him. He very willingly agreed to write the recommendation letter. And -- I did get a letter from a priest at the current parish who was my new s.d.

It'll all work out -- hope you get the job too :)
