Tony
I remember about a few years ago.. . I was trying to get to church (dont drive if you didn't know but they wanted to be at my sister's softball game. I basically told them you can't always do the things you want to... and then my step dad turned it around on me and told me to think about that.. as if softball was more important than Church. I didn't know how to react! Because I knew in my heart going to Church was just a tad more important than softball.. just a tad.... Norseman82
- Last year two parents at one of our parishes demanded that they go into the confessional with their children, and the priests obliged them so their children would receive absolution. I'm not kidding.
Wait a second, doesn't that violate the whole seal of the confessional that a priest would rather die than betray? Honestly, we have to stop being so hung up on "being charitable" and instead tell these CINO parents to "kiss off" when necessary. Norseman82
This is becoming a huge problem here. Sports on Sunday morning for elementary to high school students. More and more families are skipping Mass altogether because of games, tournaments, and practice on Sunday morning and the need for homework on Sunday night. There are even local parishes offering sacramental prep once a month on Sunday evening to accommodate. What do you think?
How about Saturday evening Vigil Mass?
The penitent can allow the Seal to be broken, by a free choice. Although I would have to wonder in that situation if there was not some pressure being applied in order for the parent to obtain that 'consent' from the child, which would be wildly inappropriate, even grave matter.
I'd prefer to give the parents the benefit of the doubt. More likely than not, it's not that the parent wanted to spy on thier child, but rather the child was scared or nervous to enter alone.
