Jaime
I think it's a brilliant idea! It's a favorite of protestants to vote on the truth.
carmenchristi
Maybe I'll create another forum, so we'll have: - Catholic Q&A: Ask a Scholar - Catholic Q&A: Ask the Peanut Gallery
Well... nowadays it seems like the Debate Table has become - "Catholic Q&A: Ask a Scholar didn't get me the answer I wanted so I'm going to Catholic Q&A: Ask the Peanut Gallery" This could get ugly with the proposed feature..... dUSt
I can see everyone's concerns. I think I may just make the feature available to every board, keep it a moderator-only feature, and then only apply it in cases where the original post was a question, and a really good, definitive answer has gotten lost in the thread. PhuturePriest
I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Winchester or MIkolbe will just say something allegedly funny every time and get the most votes.
PhuturePriest
If it's only the OP with the power to choose and the Mods don't have an option to, then there's also an issue of the OP never choosing a best answer, thus defeating the purpose of having the feature: for others who "Google it." Plus, a lot of people asking questions won't even know what the best answer for them is (non-Catholics or those with poor catechesis.) In fact, if someone trolls the thread and gives the OP, a non-Catholic, maybe the answer that they WANT to hear rather than the one they NEED to hear, they might choose the first as the best answer, and then the confusion will really begin for those stumbling on the thread. I kinda think it should be only CM and up - those who have proven they know what they're talking about and are 100% in line with Church teaching.
This might work, but I'm not sure if giving Church Militant's all the power over us regular Phatmassers is the best idea (And please note I have seen dUSt's latest post). I can name ten people off the top of my head who really deserve being a Church Militant easily, but for some reason we won't have votes anymore. But maybe this is a good idea. It may help push votes for new Church Militants again. I've been on this site for practically a year and I can honestly say I've never seen one vote on it before. I'm curious to see if the Phatmass election system is better than the American one.

dUSt
I didn't. I turned it off temporarily while I try to figure out if having open threads with thousands of replies have anything to do with the slowness of the board.

PhuturePriest
FuturePriest, name the 10 people who should be Church Militant. Go.
I didn't mean to offend. I just don't think it's seen as much of a priority right now, and I understand that. I simply think some people that have deserved it for a long time haven't been noticed. But if you insist, here are my completely non-critical and non-judgmental thoughts about it. I want to stress this a million times over because knowing me it will come out the wrong way. For instance, Slappo, Trisha, TheresaThoma, Arfink, EmilyAnn, Pax-et-bonum, MeteorShower, all of the others I originally thought of are relatively new so I understand waiting to make sure about them, but why not these? As an example, I joined here October 20 2011. FutureCarmeliteClaire joined on October 21, 2011, and if you completed Kindergarten, you'll know that's one day after me. She has been a Church Militant since a little less than a month that she got here. I'm not complaining, she completely deserves it. But why not some of the people above who have been here literally for years that have been ignored? For a long time I thought it had nothing to do with being 100% in line with Church teaching and that it was a popularity contest for these reasons above. If you're liked, you get in. I know now this is not the case, but I simply want to know why these people have been ignored.
