New Phuture Phorum Pheature. Best Answer.

Recommended Posts

In the next phorum upgrade we'll have access to a new feature called "Best Answer". It will allow a specific reply to a topic be deemed as the "Best Answer" and that reply will be pinned right below the original post.

Check out the details: http://community.inv...answer-feature/

Let's brainstorm about the best way we can use this here at phatmass!

I will just get in on this right away. I think that the OP's opinion should have greater weight than anyone else's when determining what the "best answer" is. However that could work out.

I agree with Nihil. But also maybe people with certain titles also have greater weight in choosing the best answer. Like if they have CS or CM even tags.

I am a bit concerned that it might cause some confusion at first with posts jumping around out of order, but that's minor when considering that it will help those outside of our "immediate phamily" who are searching for answers to find what they need quickly and easily. Let's herd them into the flock! :)

I noticed it said you can enable this selectively on individual forums, which were you thinking of enabling it on? I'm thinking it probably would be most helpful in Open Mic and Transmundane Lane, where people will ask some serious questions but possibly get a ton of answers.

It says also that the OP and the Admins or Mods that can choose the best answer, but does that mean that other members will not be able to?

Perhaps we can solve this by leaving the post in its original order, but copying it as well to a position at the start of the thread.

That would be perfect!

my only concerns are, no algorythym will be perfect. and Some people may try to compete to get the top answer which it shouldn't be looked at as a competition. Even if it's strictly mods/admins, they will still be forced to be Simon Cowell's of this competition that could arise. Nice idea but I think ""top answer" would be more trouble than it's worth.

I am leaning towards this as well.
I think perhaps these concerns would be mitigated if the OP's pick was the only criterion for choosing the best answer.

The feature does not move the post to the top, it just creates a blurb underneath the original post which allows you to jump to the post deemed as the best answer.

I actually see people competing to get the best answer is a good thing, not a bad thing. Why not encourage people to take more time and effort to make really quality posts?

We may have some guidelines around how to choose the best answer, such as number of props, and obviously, fidelity to church teaching.
