God Knows When You Eat

As a cradle Catholic, I am kind of embarrassed to ask this, because I think I should already know the answer, but here goes..

My husband is in RCIA classes, and each week we get articles to read. I just read one about Communion before Vatical II and after. Here's a quote from the article.

This is confusing me. I believe in the True Presence. What I don't understand is when he says, "Christ becomes really present in the Eucharist so that we may really become his Body." What does this mean? I am assuming it doesn't mean we're gods after we take Eucharist. Does this mean we are supposed to be Christ-like? Thank you very much.

I do not think her question is answered. She is actually asking, if she or anyone become ‘gods’ after they took this Eucharist or not? (You do not need to convince her about the present of Christ in the Eucharist because she is already a believer).

So, what do you mean by Christ-like (If it does not really mean ‘like- god’.)?

Keep in mind that Christ places the consuming of his flesh in the context of entering into eternal life in John 6. Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life within you. That means you dead. Dead in Hell. Sad day for those who reject the bread of life. 

 

Providentially, God is love and calls all to His table. YEAH RCIA for EVERYONE! 

 

When  we receive communion, it is really and truly a becoming one with Christ who is God.

 

 

St. Irenaeus (a really old saint from before Constantine) said that God became man so that man could become God. Of course this does not mean there are many Gods, but that there is a true union (oneness) with God and His Church.  Like a groom and his bride C.F. Revelations. 

Yes, we become what we eat.
