Sister Maria Of The Cross, O.p. Has Passed Away

Please pray for the happy repose of the soul of Sr. Maria of the Cross, OP of the Dominican Nuns of Summit, NJ. (Sr. Maria was the religious sister of Phatmasser Sr. Mary Catharine)

She was an amesome human being and a great musician - I had the privilege of meeting her several years ago, and it is a treasured memory!

January 2, 1937 – September 20, 2012

Sr. Maria of the Cross went home to God at 3:25 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Sr. Maria was 75 and and in her 55th year of religious profession.

While Sr. Maria was talented in many different areas, she will always be most known for The Summit Choirbook, a 15 year labor of love. Sr. Maria also wrote numerous Mass ordinaries. She adapted the entire Dominican rite gradual for chanting in English as well as an adaptation of the antiphonarium. She composed music specifically for singing in English for the Sacred Triduum, Easter Sunday and the Easter Octave, drawing on the chants used for the Latin texts in the Dominican rite. This is what is used at our monastery but has never been published. ....
