Katholikos
Quietfire, IloveChrist:  Thank you. To anyone who ever wants to use anything I've written: It's yours, take it, you don't need my permission as long as it's to be used for the good of the Church. Don't feel obligated to use my name. Dave
I thought I should add something to what Likos has said ... I've often heard that many fundamentalists/evangelicals who later convert to Catholicism had the initial impression (long before converting) that Catholics were "dead" and didn't live their faith. And at Mass, you could very well find more bad Catholics than you could bad Protestants at a Protestant service. Well, the reason why it seems that way to them is because Catholics are, in a sense, more compassionate than evangelicals. Let me explain ... It's true that at almost every evangelical/fundamentalist church you visit, you won't find many people who aren't good Christians. However, that's because the climate of such churches is such that they don't accept those who don't at least outwardly live their faith. Evangelicals and fundamentalists will be welcoming of any person just so long as their on their way to repentance, but anybody who has backslidden and is unrepentant isn't made to feel so welcome. As a result, such people either stop going to church altogether, or they switch to a much larger church where they can go unnoticed. To sum up, the climate of a typical evangelical/fundamentalist church is that of a born-again fraternity of active members. In the Catholic Church, it's totally different. The climate is that of a family meal, that is, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and when the family comes together for Mass, EVERYONE is invited -- even the black sheep son who's an embarrassment to the rest of the family. We Catholics hope that by being compassionate to these black sheep and helping them to feel welcome at Mass, the good Catholics and the lives they lead will rub off onto them. You see, the good Catholics are a testimony to the not-so-good Catholics. But that can't happen if we have a climate where the black sheep son feels he can't come to Mass because he's not as good a Catholic as everyone else. MorphRC
Pax Iesus From all the Church Father quotes and statements Ive read. Church means heirarchy and Institution, church means the community that belongs to the Church, and the Church all incombering the church as the Body of Christ. This is the meaning I got from them. Pax Iesus Christi Paul.
