Literal Interpretation Of The Bible

Byzantine

Recommended Posts

I had always been taught that we were free to believe that Genesis was a literal account of what happened. However, The Shape of Catholic Theology by Aidan Nichols seems to say that this has been rejected. What's correct?

And it seems to say that Jonah might not be/is not strictly historical. Is that open for debate?

Thanks!

Most serious scholars today (including many recent popes) reject the literal interpretation. You are still free to accept a young earth age. But really that is silly. The ancient Babylonian Jew was more concerned with theology than astronomy, biology, and geology. Turns out that the ancient Jew in babylon was not so good that the last three, but really good at the first ology mentioned.
