Gemma
Like I said in my original post, just because one person doesn't feel called to discern with a community, it doesn't mean the community is bad. Religious are not infallible. I respect them, but they have opinions just like the rest of us.
They asked the folks around their convent and those they worked with what they wanted them to wear, and the people said hoods without veils. emmaberry
I began a similar thread for Sr Theresa, not realising that this thread already existed. With that said, I hope that people don't feel the need to answer my request for prayers for her in the way that this sincere and kindly attempt to do the same thing by MichaelKoenigTalidong has been answered, namely by hijacking a celebration and turning it into a critique of the people with whom Sr Theresa has been called by God to spend the rest of her life. Thanks are due to Michael for drawing attention to this wonderful event, and also to the people above who pointed out the inappropriateness of the response; apologies to Michael for duplicating your intent, but with hopes that my own thread might still be an opportunity for people to actually celebrate rather than denigrate. I had hoped to bring Phatmass to Sr Theresa's attention, but right now I'm not sure that's a good idea. People have the right to express their opinions, obviously; but is the announcement of a profession really the place to start yet another debate on religious dress? A word to those who are considering consecrated life: knowing when opinions should be expressed and when they should be kept to ourselves is an important skill in community life - just because you think it doesn't mean you need to say it. Please pray for Sr Theresa and COLW and their mission.
Many prayers for Sister, though the public rebuke might have been sent to the offending posters in a PM. ToJesusMyHeart
I wasn't aware my asking a question about veils would cause such an uproar. Can we not ask questions now, in fear of offending someone? I merely asked if they wore veils or not. Granted, I appreciate the advice that my sad face emoticon opinion-indicator shouldn't have been posted. Is it really such a horrible thing to ask if a community wears a veil? It was meant to be an honest question, and I must agree that any complaint may have better served its purpose as a PM, rather than alienating the inquirer.
I agree that we should not tip-toe around things simply because it might offend somebody. Simply being Catholic offends people. Should we stop being Catholic because of it? I just think there have been many wars about habits or no habits here and people are very sensitive about the issue because of it. Thus it is best to clarify, clarify, clarify! Though I do think we should work on sensitivity. You can't say anything without offending people today, and I think the world needs a little more insensitivity (In that they will not be sensitive to things). See how I clarified to make sure people didn't get the wrong idea about the need to be insensitive?

I'm trying to take all this down a level or two. I hope we can all get back to celebrating Sr Theresa's profession.
ChristinaTherese
(Now that miscommunication has been gotten over.... ) I don't really know much of anything about the COLW, but it's great that people are entering. Are there both men and women in their community? EDIT: I was just looking at their website, and they look like they have a great apostolate. (http://www.walsinghamcommunity.org/about-us/hopes-for-the-future/ was what I was looking at, if anyone cares.) beatitude
Christina Therese, there are currently only sisters in the community, although the bishop has given authorisation for a brothers' branch to develop. I spoke with Sr Camilla around Easter time and she said that they have plans for a secular institute too, but one step at a time.
