Byzantine
I've been going crazy about the Catholic idea of predestination for quite some time, but after reading the article on it in New Advent it seems like predestination is a fancy way of saying "God knows everything that's going to happen and has ordered events accordingly." Is that right?
Ed Normile
I would think it would be more like, God in his infinite wisdom can see every possible event in your life as it would play out in whatever choice you may make using your freewill. But hey, thats just my thoughts. ed
To Jesus Through Mary
Been a topic of discussion in the Catholic Church for centuries. Just ask the Jesuits and the Dominicans. So you would get two different answers depending on which position you took. My vote is yes. God ultimately sovereign. St Thomas Aquinas tends that way as well... The Summa has a lot to say on the matter. Unfortunately most of it is over my head. Perhaps there is a Church Scholar who can speak more to his interpretation of predestination. The Church has never defined out and out defined it from my understanding. This is something I have struggled with for years, and still have yet to reach a complete conclusion.
