It's less creepy/depressing/vile/distracting/loathsome/modern-hymn-like?

I understand that you disliked your experience with the NO Mass you attended, but I find this a rather rude description. I would appreciate if you could be a little more respectful when talking about a perfectly valid Mass.

It may come off as rude to you, but I saw it simply as a statement of opinion.

When I talk to Orthodox Christians, which I do quite often, they mention the modern Roman Rite liturgy as one of the greatest obstacles to the restoration of communion between the Roman Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches.

Perhaps the Roman Church should clean up its act when it comes to liturgy (i.e., by penalizing those who promote or participate in liturgical abuses):

Click the link to see Orthodox responses to a video showing a comparison of an Orthodox liturgy to a liturgy celebrated in, and sponsored by, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles:

Journey to Orthodoxy

If you read the comments by the Orthodox posters you will see that - by and large - they are not into gloating, but are really concerned about the strange things going on the many parts of the Roman Church.

Well, I find it unacceptable to describe any Mass in which Our Lord is present as "vile" and "loathsome." I'm sorry that you don't agree. It has nothing to do with anyone having a preference for a different Mass. That doesn't bother me in the least. But I find it highly offensive to describe a valid Mass, in which Our Lord is present, as "creepy" or "vile" or "loathsome." And if someone does dislike a particular Mass, there are ways to express that without being insulting or rude.

p.s. paragraph breaks are your friend.

That is like a way old and half irrelevant post.

Please do not think I mean to criticize the Christ or the worship in the Mass, just the style of it and slightly the approach of things, not the heart of it-I love what it is about.

I would say that such terms can be an understatement depending upon what type of Mass a person is witnessing, e.g., the Masses performed at the basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil (i.e., the second largest Catholic Church in the world) are an utter disgrace and profane the Lord's Eucharistic presence in a carnival like atmosphere.

The truly bizarre part begins at 1 minute 30 seconds into the above video.

The above Mass is an example of what Cardinal Ratzinger lamented in his autobiography when he said:

". . . the impression has arisen that the liturgy is 'made,' that it is not something that exists before us, something 'given,' but that it depends on our decisions. It follows as a consequence that this decision-making capacity is not recognized only in specialists or in a central authority, but that, in the final analysis, each 'community' wants to give itself its own liturgy. But when the liturgy is something each one makes by himself, then it no longer gives us what is its true quality: encounter with the mystery which is not our product but our origin and the wellspring of our life."
