Anastasia13
Does that mean that the Orthodox Church is the one founded by Jesus and the Catholics split away?
I think so from what I understand, but I'm joining the Oriental Orthodox, you and us schismed apart much earlier than the Eastern Orthodox and you, but as Catholics, you still have a lot of truth and it does not mean that we do not want unity between us, though between EO and OO is a bigger issue for us. Nothing about you personally, but there are so many people here who are well-versed in Catholic church history. I feel like someone is going to try to jump in an correct me when I have my mind made up. I have much to learn and may not know how to respond adequately. No one is going to necessarily debate me for disagreeing, right? Edited September 16, 2012 by Light and Truth

I first wanted to establish that you saw the divisions in the body of Christ as being seriously detrimental to the mission of the Church. So would you say that the one true Church resides fully in the Oriental Orthodox Church (a claim Catholics make for themselves)?
beatitude
Light and Truth, I'm puzzled by your motivations in posting this topic. It's not your conversion to Orthodoxy that bothers me, but your 'you and us' language and the fact that you seem to be looking for a dramatic confrontation of some kind. Your opening post (a declaration of two lines long, with no description, no discussion) does suggest that you're trying to throw a bombshell rather than actually have a conversation, and I don't see any point to that.
I'm excited about it. It feels like a bombshell in my life. I thought it would be a funny way of introducing it-since I knew at least some number of people here know I am not and have never been Catholic. I did always like Catholicism but could not get past some of the theology. Converting brings a new identity and a new role, and a new parish to settle into-since I am not sure which one I belong in. mortify
Then so is my soul, but better sunk in the mud than anti-Orthodoxy like this statement.
I was paraphrasing a statement by an Old Believer by the name of John Alden, he wrote many detailed articles on why contemporary Orthodoxy is lost. Are you familiar with the Old Believers?
I lost my interest two years ago. Would you rather I stay Protestant/Messianic? If you truly believe that Orthodox is at least closer to the the fullness of truth as some would call it in Catholicism, then you should be happy that I will be Orthodox. If you believe that Messianic or Protestant is closer, then feel free to be sad about my recent decision. I'm going Oriental Orthodox, so I have tried to focus my reading and studying to more directly applicable stuff, plus I never heard of this Alden person before today. Groo the Wanderer
All should be happy for your move toward greater truth. I laud your decision. I also pray that as some point you will be led one step closer to cross the Tiber.
