This is an important time in your life and you just gotta stay positive! Even if there are people who may doubt your resolve and make you feel that this journey is unimportant, just always cling to your faith, honesty, and desire! Those who sincerely seek the truth will find it even if there are bumps along the way.

Ok, I don't know what my label should be and I hate that I have to have one, even here.

Prayers L&T.  I've tried to mostly be quiet, because I didn't want to accidentally seem sarcastic or something again, but I have been reading.  I hope your hiatus brings some peace and definitely hope the pain from the accident diminishes.  Didn't realize all that about the job and everything else around the same time as that; I can't imagine having to juggle so much without time to recuperate first.

sorry, i'm in a pretty foul mood. shouldn't have taken it out on you. i like that comic too.

It's alright. It was late, too, so I know that at least I was probably posting with less thought than normal.

And L&T: :nunpray: Or maybe for you: crosseo.gif (Funny story: When I first learned how the Sign of the Cross is properly made, my brother told me that it was right to left for Orthodox and left to right for Catholics. Being neither (I was raised Protestant) I decided to go right to left because "Orthodox" means "correct" and "Catholic" only means "universal" and I'd rather be right than universal. :hehe2: )

Oriental Orthodox do left to right.  Yes, it is important to be right.

Eh, the labels here are a tad silly but I understand why they do it.

There are many people who come onto this site (yourself included) who are looking for information, answers, guidance etc and its better that the person asking knows whether or not the source of the information is indeed catholic or of some other affiliation.

I suppose if youre uncomfortable with it you can talk to a mod and ask them to remove it and put something generic down but I dont think its anything to stress over. This is just an online forum after all and nothing here is going to dictate how you  live your life based on some label that you put.

That is also exactly why, now that we have religion labels, we should be able to have St. Hasa Perm Orthodox because they are recognized by Rome as in partial communion as long as they do not label themselves as Catholic unless they are/become under Rome, plus, it might even create a way to reduce the groups that Dust has to change things in each time he changes a setting.

Tru dat, though unless I am missing something, I will probably confuse people more if I comment on my future visit to a Maronite church.

And I had exactly the instruction that I needed to join a Church and not just say I don't believe well enough, I might as well not bother even trying just to be told I can't join like would have happened years ago when the Catholic Church came up.  However perfect or imperfect, if it gets me where I need to be, then Glory be to God for it.

I've watched you oscillate between Orthodoxy and Armenian Catholicism (often in the course of the same week) and my first thought was that this speaks of huge inconsistency for someone so recently confirmed. It makes me wonder what kind of instruction you had on your way to confirmation, as these are the sort of questions that are dealt with as you prepare for that sacrament - which is why such lengthy preparation is given.

My priest is back from his trip last week. Armenian Catholics and Armenian Orthodox are 99% the same. The biggest difference isn't theology but administration. For this reason, my background of looking into Catholicism in the past and taking a catechism course in college helped me to have a short catechism (in the traditional informal Oriental style) with a few little books and a chance to ask questions. I emailed my priest last week and told him how I ate the communion bread at a Roman church and apparently I did nothing truly wrong. (The Roman priest said we are not in open schism the way that the EOs are, which kind of surprised me, but apparently EOs would have more issues to work out than the OOs if/when either would re-unify with Rome, something that helps fuel my interest in inter-church relations-am open to reading suggestions and church agreements to read).

What is confusing isn't my faith or where I stand, but when other people who don't know me or my church tell me I am so far from what a Catholic is, be they Romans or Coptics (politics between them and Rome caused more tension between these two). We acknowledge Rome as having valid sacraments and as being some of the only other true Christians (according to a lady at my diocese, I consider Protestants Christians, but missing a few parts). I'm sorry if that confuses you.

The only changes of substance that has happened in the last 6 months was not changing between two denominations, but a deepening of faith, of appreciation of tradition and of church authority-something that (along with similarity of theology) has moved me closer to Armenian Catholic than anticipated (such that I could probably honestly believe like an Armenian Catholic, but it is hard to get to their services) (and echoes of conversations and even posts about Protestants vs Catholics suddenly make sense from the other side-weird experience!).

I would say that such terms can be an understatement depending upon what type of Mass a person is witnessing, e.g., the Masses performed at the basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil (i.e., the second largest Catholic Church in the world) are an utter disgrace and profane the Lord's Eucharistic presence in a carnival like atmosphere.

The truly bizarre part begins at 1 minute 30 seconds into the above video.

Actually if you look up the history behind Our Lady of Aparecida, what they are doing makes sense.  Our Lady of Aparecida came up in a net while fishermen were at work.

Not to say that what is happening is/is not ok during Mass, but you can't completely judge it without knowing the cultural background.

I know the history of our Lady of Aparecida and yet what they are doing does not make sense during the liturgy. Nor does the Gospel procession at the 2013 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress "make sense" during the liturgy. To see that bizarre procession go to the 37:45 mark in the video below:

Now your profile says 'non-denominational'...

Ok, I admit it. I'm still non-denominational. This is all a joke. I've been a hard-core non-denom for the last 5 years. I know I am right. I just know it. It's just a pity that I'm...
