TheUbiquitous
Any particular rationale for Orthodoxy over Catholicism? I'm sure you've seen some of the resources regarding the question. Anastasia13
Any particular rationale for Orthodoxy over Catholicism?
The filoque, purgatory, the different view of papal authority including Catholic inferences based on Matthew 16 and apparent lack of ANF support for this view, the equality of bishops in the Orthodox churches where-prior to the EO/Catholic split it-the first among equals truly was equal, western latter church baggage following the councils in which they separated from the Eastern church being easier to reject from a "protestant" perspective while maintaining church authority, the gentleness of an article I read a while back about how we are saved and the role of the church, the non-legalistic gentleness and healthy attitude of the religious/practicing Orthodox and particularly the Oriental Orthodox that I have met, the Coptic understanding that the Chalcedonian division was a matter of language translation while the ideas are the same (despite the views of some that your view is closer to Nestorianism), an interest in the church history in which our faith was very first founded in and not just its later growth, eastern perspective on theosis and generally a better appreciation of eastern mindsets of faith than Latin ones in a sea of predominantly Roman Catholicism, the approach the history had on the Armenian church outside of the politicizing of the church, heritage. I'm sure you have done your own reading. http://www.orthodoxa...cclesiology.pdf I know you won't agree with me, and I don't mean to start a debate. I hope that you can be happy for me. I am both nervous and excited to take this step and figure out where to go from there. Anastasia13
Chill. Honest question.
Sorry. I've been asked about why a few times, and I think one of my friends isn't quite convinced that I really do fit with Orthodox theology better and he is trying to get me to be Catholic. I really do want people to be happy for me though. I'm planning on giving him a paper next year on reasons why I think Orthodoxy is the coolest. Plus it really is a pretty cool article I got on ecclesiology. Edited September 16, 2012 by Light and Truth
