Jesus "binding The Strong Man"

Byzantine

I'm reading Pope Benedict's first "Jesus of Nazareth" Andes talking about Jesus "binding the strong man" when He went into the Jordan. Does he mean that this is literally when it happened or is he only saying it in reference to his meditation on the Baptism in the Jordan as a prefigure meant of the Resurrection (i.e. "This prefigures Christ's descent into hell, where He will bind the strong man, but it's such a close parallel (or something) that we can speak of it as if it's happening at the Baptism")? Thanks!
