Genealogies In Matthew

Byzantine

Recommended Posts

From Abraham to the Babylonian Exile, I'm only counting 27 generations (going by how many times the list talks about begetting) where there should be 28. However, I'm ending up with 29 men, Abraham to Jeconiah. What am I doing wrong?

Yes,.... scripture scholars have muddled over the same.

Basically - it shows that Matthew perhaps wasn't the greatest at math... but he was trying to communicate something far more important and inspired by the Holy Spirit....

Why should it be significant to that there are 14 generations 3 times over.....? Think about the numbers and what they mean in Jewish numerology/theology.

I'm going to pause and let you have some fun praying over it before I add.

I love this stuff!!!!!! :bounce:

I knew he cuts some out, but I thought he listed 3 x 14 generations in his account... I was pretty sure that in this instance, it was my counting. I mean, come on, if I count 29 men, there should be 28 occurrences of the word "father," right?
