Mark of the Cross
What about Antidepressants that work at first then make us worse or in many cases cause suicide. Is there some religious significance, or is this just bad luck, they haven't tweaked it yet? Bearing in mind that recreational drugs do the same things and appear to be the tools of satan. My story I took Paroxetine (Paxil in the US) for more than ten years and had some great experiences. The highest was I went to East Timor. I felt the call of God to do this even though it was only a matter of 6 weeks over two trips and I taught English classes to the most sweetest children and walked the streets talking to street children and feeling I was doing this with Jesus by my side. Then when the effects of the meds had obviously slowly lost it's effect and I was having trouble with anxiety and new horrible side effects. I thought maybe God had said that I had had a break and now he wanted me to do it myself. But then I discovered I was trapped by a most horrible addiction (discontinuation as they prefer) About 4 years of intense suffering including a total breakdown I got free. Praise be to God. As Catherine may know (husband), the sufferings of the mind can be more intense than physical suffering.
CatherineM
All medications can have bad side effects, or lose their potency. We take them to get better, but if something bad happens, that's not our sin. If you intentionally go off, and something bad happens, then it is about intent. If you go off your heart medicine and die of a heart attack, what does that mean? If you go off because you thought erroneously you no longer needed it, that's a mistake not a sin. If you go off because you can't afford it, that's probably someone's sin, but not yours. If you go off the meds on purpose to hurt yourself, that's more problematic.
