Mark of the Cross
And the Lord God said to the woman: Why hast thou done this? And she answered: The serpent deceived me, and I did eat. [14] And the Lord God said to the serpent: Because thou hast done this thing, thou art cursed among all cattle, and beasts of the earth: upon thy breast shalt thou go, and earth shalt thou eat all the days of thy life. [15] I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. DR Bible footnote says She shall crush: Ipsa, the woman; so divers of the fathers read this place, conformably to the Latin: others read it ipsum, viz., the seed. The sense is the same: for it is by her seed, Jesus Christ, that the woman crushes the serpent's head. 1/Does this mean that satan suffers on earth compared to what it had prior to the temptation? 2/What does it mean by put enmities between thee and the woman, since it appears as though there already was for the serpent to tempt the woman to defy God for the purpose of bringing about the fall? 3/What is the serpents seed? CatherineM
The serpant's seed is evil. That is his fruit. The second Woman talked about is Mary. It is her seed, Christ that will stand against that evil. By the way, Eve was not created yet when God made his covenant with Adam. Even though she had knowledge of the restriction on the Tree, she wasn't a party to the original contract. If I has been her lawyer, I think I could have gotten her off on a lesser charge.
