I Am Writing A Novel...

by force as part of my senior year writing class.

It is about an 18 year old girl, Maggie Dorner, and her family consisting of her older brother(Jens) two younger sisters (Annaliese and Joanie) and her parents.
-They are living under german occupation during World War II in Austria in a town yet to be determined.
-With a focus on Maggie's role, the family is involved in espionage...
-At one point in the story, Maggie has to "suffer"... and somebody will probably die.
-Maggie is a writer herself and that has to play into the story some how.
-The main character is supposed to have odd quirks and a catch phrase or two.
- Oh, Maggie also has to be the "hero" of the story.

Please feel free to be creative, help me write the story! Any ideas will be taken into consideration.

I am guessing her name would be Margaret though. Back then I don't believe they named their kids *Maggie*. Ooh that would be interesting though if their family was a little rebellious about names.
I love writing though and I am filled with idea's. As their family are spies maybe you want to give an air of fakeness to their lives. A sort of "keeping up appearances" when they encounter support characters (I don't know, you could make their family aloof if you want as well :D)

Well.. now my braind is swimming with ideas!

<3fran... do you have the same teacher as me... cause if you do I think she's amesome. :) By the way, I can't wait to see you on Thursday... :dance5:

Sounds cool, you should put a nun in the story somehow... maybe she could meet St. Edith Stein... oops was she in WW one or two?

Sounds great! Writing is such a beautiful thing.
And, I think, many people would like to read such a kind of novel.

But BTW... I think I never met an Austrian girl called "Joanie" or "Maggie". (And I think especially at the time your novel plays, there were no English names given to a kid in Austria  ).
Maggie is going to have to go... I just liked the name, but I was looking at Austrian baby names and Joanie came up. I

I will see what I can do. The family will have a Catholic back round because most Austrians were Catholic. I am trying to keep everything as historically accurate as possible, so I am going to research and see if there were any convents nearby during the time and such.

Okay so I am possibly renaming her Rita. It is German, and it originated from the name Margaret. Or (new idea!!!!) she could have to do some work behind enemy lines and change her name to Rita... I don't know.

I have decided (for now) that Maggie (We will just stick with that for now...) is going to be quite rebellious herself, but the rest of her family will be a little more low-key. (For lack of a better way of putting it) Their spy work will be very hidden; nobody would assume they are doing anything but going about their business.

They are going to live in the town of Sankt Johann in Pongau, it is a small town located outside of Salzburg, Austria. During the war there was a small POW camp there that "housed" Russian soldiers. Ideally, the Dorners' spy work would have something to do with the prisoners.

**And a new note, I thought it would be funny if she occasionally said "I have a scathingly brilliant idea." but I don't know if that will fit in.

The class I am writing the book in is Christian and I would love to throw in hidden bits of Catholicism where ever I can just for fun. :P

Margaret is a German name, but I really doubt that Maggie would be its diminutive in German. I think in German (particularly the Austrian dialect) it refers to a type of vegetable. Be careful which nickname you pick! Do you know anybody who speaks German?

Two, and she was German, not Austrian. She went from Germany to Holland in the war.

So, I have to ask... at what maturity level is this story being aimed? There are lots of things that could happen, although as you might imagine some of the most effective may or may not be appropriate for certain audiences.
