DiscerningCatholic
'Kay, so if you've been on chat when I've been in there or even looked at my profile, you can probably tell that the order I'm really looking at now (discernment-wise) is the DSMME. I want to email Sr. Joseph Andrew (that's her name, right? Whoever the vocations director is) just to start a conversation and maybe get help with discernment and all that good stuff. Thing is, I'm 16. I don't graduate for another year and a half. I don't know if it would make sense to bother her with my questions if I wouldn't even be able to enter for over a year. I have this perpetual fear of being annoying/in the way/a pest, etc., but I will have to start talking to a vocations director (regardless of what order I'm looking at) at some point. Have any of you ever talked to/met/emailed the DSMME vocations director? If so, what did you think? Do you think I should just email her? (P.S. If you're going to tell me that I'm too young or that I need to listen to my parents instead of "only thinking about myself" or etc. and so on, don't bother. It's happened once and I have no desire for it to happen again. If that happens again, I WILL NOT post on this forum regarding my discernment again.) Pax_et bonum
I've never contacted the DSMME, but you're not too young. I was younger than you when I first visited a community She will love to hear from you; that's her job to talk with discerners!

There is a 99% chance that I will go on their May retreat next year. I've written once to Sr. Mary Magdalene, but she's an active teacher, so I'm trying not to bother her. I know that Sr. Joseph Andrew has a Blackberry... which I'm assuming helps...? Hehe

I'm homeschooled, and unlike many people think, I have a RIDICULOUSLY jammed schedule, and the November one and February one are both smack in the middle of the school year. The one in May is the WEEKEND AFTER finals week *whew* and is the only one that would work without me freaking out about skipping a whole Saturday I could have used for school.
Tell her a bit about yourself-your faith life, how you came to discern, why you are interested in the DSMME's apostolate of teaching, the two Sisters you met and how they drew you into this community. If you have any questions, that will create a good base for the communication between you and the Vocations Director. If you don't ask anything, or ask for advice, your response may look like this: "Looking forward to seeing you at the retreat and praying for your discernment! -VD." This is not ideal-while you have the VD's attention and correspondence, ask those questions that are bothering you! She is an expert on her community and on discernment. You could ask her what you should do leading up to graduating and a probable application to the DSMME. She may give you a helpful 'timeline' and daily devotions to practice. Contacting the VD can only help, not hurt! Good luck.

In fact, many of them thanked me for being so open and for having an interest in Religious life. Trust me, they will be excited that you are contacting them, not annoyed.
