Q For Out-of-schools Who Live At Home

If you are out of school and live with your family, how often do you eat dinner with your family/how often do you go out with friends for dinner?

(To those who are between jobs or severely under-employed, you may answer more in-line with what what would be the case if you were not job hunting atm.)

Well, I am a college dropout waiting to enter the convent. My college friends are (you guessed it) still at college, and most of my local (Protestant) friends won't have anything to do with me because I am becoming an evil, unbiblical, obedience-asking, chastity-practicing, enclosure-vowing, poverty-living, Eucharist-believing, Roman Catholic nun. To be fair, I have some lax Protestant friends who could care less about religion, and we have lunch every couple weeks, but I would almost prefer my staunchly Protestant friends to them-even if they won't associate with me.

In short, I eat dinner with my parents every night, unless they are out. Not a typical situation, though. If your normal average person is eating dinner with their parents every night, they need friends and/or a romantic interest.

What does it matter ? I have no friends that are staunch religious, actually i have one but he is rarely home nore does he ever have food,he eats at the cities free feeds. I have one christian friend though that seems to be interested in becoming more staunch but neither of us can afford to eat out, i can't even eat at his house because it is a halfway/rehabilitation house. My other two friends that desired to become staunch over the past 5 years are dead, one at late 30s the other mid 40s, one overdosed on heroin or it was a hotshot(murder) and the other i don't even know how she died. And i have one other christian friend that as soon as he got a date he hardly talks with me. What it is 2012.

Jesus iz LORD

I actually wind up making dinner for my parents many nights, cleaning up afterwards, and babysitting sometimes too, because that's how I pull my weight while I'm living at home. That's just the way it is for me. I go out on Thursday nights with the parish young adults group, and don't have many other friends. For the past 2 years I worked the night shift at the bakery, so I kinda couldn't associate with people who were on normal schedules anyway.

Now I have a GF but she lives like 1500 miles away, so I can't just take her to dinner. Maybe later.

It matters that the people I like won't associate with me. Here in the deep South everyone is Christian, and the staunch ones are very anti-Catholic. I could go buddy up with some random people who don't care about Catholicism, but I only have a couple months left, and it's good for me to focus on my family in that short time anyway.

Yeah, it matters.

I fit the bill and eat out 2x a week. That is the number of shifts I get at the haunted bar in town as dishwasherish guy. If the food is cheap enough... It's free. Otherwise I almost always eat at home. The number of suppers not made by my Mom is very small, but then again my diet is pretty limited. Tis one of my crosses to bare.

 • 2 weeks later...

I'm the eldest child and all my siblings live at home too, so we all eat together each night (unless my parents are out or someone isn't home). I rarely go out with friends for dinner, because I've begun to view dinner as family time.

I fit the description at the moment... but I don't have a life or close friends, so I guess I can't be of much help. I eat with my parents almost every night, but now we rarely sit down at the table (we always did when we were kids, but now things are a bit more relaxed)... we usually have dinner while watching a movie or something. They don't insist on always doing the formal family dinner any more.
