You want the truth?
Yes, I want the truth.
Do you want the truth?
I want the truth!
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

But I digress. I served once ... 10 years ago. I think it was for negligent homicide (a drunk driver's passenger was killed in an accident). Guilty of second degree manslaughter.

OMG just the other day I got a 2nd letter saying that again I was gonna be thrown into the jury pool and I may have to serve jury duty.

This is all my moms fault just for the record! LOL I've never voted b/c I dont want to serve jury duty. Well my mom took it upon herself to register me to vote and ever since then I keep getting thrown into the jury pool! Shes 43 and never been in once!

Its funny the letter says it is a privledge (sp?) and an obligation of every american citizen. Thats one privledge I could live w/o! If I miss school or clinicals I'll be kicked out of the nursing program! Hopefully I wont be summoned to serve on a jury.

if you can't go, you can arrange with them to schedule a day you can go.

i was summoned last fall but i forgot and went to class that day. i tried to call and reschedule after-the-fact but i got this phone recorded program that basically said every day for the next year that i chose was not available. i hope they have on record that at least i tried.... oh well. no one's arrested me yet.

I was called last year-- I was seven months pregnant at the time. (I could have deferred it, but that would have put me on jury duty right at my due date or shortly after!) I was pulled for the pool for a civil case-- aspestos company (and other companies) being sued. The plaintif was dying. He had like a month to live. So, we get in and the judge warns us that no one is getting pulled from the pool. The case is expected to last 3 or 4 weeks and just forget about trying to get out of it. It was going to be a difficult case to listen to (emotionally and technically)... They gave us a HUGE questionaire to fill out (64 pages!!) before we went home. They were to begin questioning potential jurors the next day. Now, I would have loved to serve on the jury. I think it would be very interesting. However, childcare for four weeks could become an issue for me... as well as having to miss my late pregnancy appointments (once a week). So, I'm filling out my life history and under "is there anything else you want the judge and lawyer to know?" I mentioned that although I would still like to be considered for the case, I was pregnant... In case the didn't notice me waddling in.

We came back the next day expecting to be questioned... but they settled. I guess the guy didn't want to spend the rest of his life in a court room. However, the judge then was now freer to talk about the case. The lawyers were there and they asked us if we had any questions about the case or the process in general. They answered questions for almost an hour. It was nice. But sad for the guy. That was it... I had done my civic duty.

I hung a jury once. I wasn't convinced there was enough evidence presented to convict.

Way to go, Cmom! If I'm ever on trial, I want you -- an independent thinker unswayed by the opinions of others and willing to convict only upon the weight of the evidence -- on my jury.

This might sound weird, but I love serving jury duty. I find it so interesting. I've served on 3 juries and have learned so much about the laws, even got sequestered on the last trial. I got called for jury duty this past January and was actually disappointed when I didn't get picked for the trial, but it was a domestic violence case and unfortunately I was in a violent marriage my first time around so I wasn't the ideal juror for this trial.

I wish being a juror could be like a real job, now that's a job I'd love to go to everyday :)

I have been called up (but never on a jury) more times in 8 years of voting than my parents have in over 40+ years of voting!

How sick is that!
