mamalove
I was summoned a few years ago and served on a criminal trial. It was s child abuse case. Funny story about that. Once we had all been picked, the attorneys and the judge were making notes and the courtroom was completely silent. I was sitting in the back row. I reached for my back pack and my stuff in there shifted and squished my keys. I had an Austin Powers keychain that said lots of stuff...and it went off...twice. Everyone looked at me because my backpack was saying "Yeah Baby!" and "Oh, behave!." The judge leaned over to see me and gave me a mean look. I wanted to die. Anyway...verdict NOT GUILTY

I love the question on the form my parents get, "Put an X here if you can't read English____" No translations.
luciana
Yes, I'm a teacher. We're constantly called it seems. I served 3 summers ago. The case was on just 1 day when the young guy in the case incriminated himself. It was about selling drugs, 1 man blaming the other. The judge called for order and a recess. We weren't supposed to talk about it yet, and so the jurors , we just looked at each other and said , "hmm I wonder what's going to happen now' the judge came in and said that the case was thrown out . The guy who was caught selling drugs was going to plea bargain. It was kind of neat. I tell my students about it, to show them that jury duty is not that bad and is an interesting part of our civil duty to fight against the idea that a lot of people have, you should have heard the excuses people gave to not serve, willingly saying they're biased towards officers, Latinos (the young man was Latino) or more normal ones married to cops, know someone and can't be fair in decisions at all.. .I think I heard that the law changed about excuses. Katholikos
Summoned three times. One trial. DUI case plus Reckless Endangerment or something like that. Guilty on the DUI, not guilty on the other charge. I used to work in the Superior Court. The Police and Prosecutors hate to lose a case. It's not about justice -- it's about winning and losing. Sometimes it's hard to tell the testifying from the testilying.

Crusader_4
I always wanted to be a lawyer till i realized i might have to represent someone who is actually guilty and lie that didnt fly to well with me.
Sojourner
I've gotten called to serve on a jury but couldn't ... I had registered in the town where I went to college, but was called to serve in summer, when I wasn't there. I've always wanted to serve, because I think it'd be really interesting. I'm a reporter for a legal newspaper, and before that covered courts for a daily newspaper, so I've covered a bunch of trials from the gallery. It's fascinating ... I love the law. But I don't think I'll be a lawyer.

crusader1234
Will you could be a country prosecutor. Or a district attorney. Then you run the chance of setting innocent people into jail, so its a fine line.
