franciscanheart
My beef really doesn't have anything to do with the topic of the OP, or any opinions for and against his proposition, I really don't care, but what got me was the tendency for phatmass, as a group to gang up on people and have a pages long frenzy of mockery.
I must have missed where anyone ganged up on anyone else in this thread + the pages-long frenzy of mockery.
PhuturePriest
I personally do not like curse words. I never use them. If you ever see the word used in the first post I am typing out the fiddlered version, not the actual word itself. Winchester thinks I'm totally lame for doing that, but he's an anarchist, so... There is a place for sarcasm and poking fun, I know I've been a part of it so maybe I'm being hypocritical, but I think phatmass crosses the line at times. maybe I'm getting soft in my old age. winchester, I see what you did there.
Typically speaking, I would agree with you. Sometimes we go overboard with teasing and it can get really mean. I don't think that happened in this thread. The floopy jokes have flown, but I don't think anyone has directly mocked or attacked Innocent (for the record, I wholeheartedly disagree with his position and have various reasons for that, but I don't think it's fair to list them all here. I have taken my primary issue with it and sent it to Dust. It's his business to know my objections, not Innocents or anyone else's).
PhuturePriest
To the point of the original poster, I disagree. Frankly, the fiddlers do often make me think twice about the profanity I use on a daily basis -- especially when angry or otherwise disturbed. The fiddlers dUSt has put into place make me laugh, remind me not to take myself so seriously, and truly showcase how ridiculous profanity can be. I do not think a public post in the "main" board was the best way to communicate a message directed at one person, the phounder of phatmass. In my opinion, this should have been a private correspondence, and in the future, I hope similar will be.
Perhaps private correspondence would be possible if you and dUSt would EMPTY OUT YOUR FLOOPING MESSAGE BOXES SO YOU CAN RECEIVE NEW ONES!!!! Phew. I'm glad I was finally able to say that... Please see dUSt's profile here for an email address and various other ways of contacting him. You may contact me privately by sending an email to [myusername]@phatmass.com. If someone wanted to contact dUSt privately, it would have taken very little time to figure out how to do so -- even with a full inbox here on the phorums. I understand you were saying what you said very tongue-in-cheek, however agitating that truth might actually be for you. Again I will say, though, that adults should know how to problem solve such a minor issue. (I do not get the impression, however, that the OP had any intention of taking the issue to dUSt privately.) I'm not saying this is exactly the same since he was only suggesting that dUSt change the name of the Ask A Scholar thread, but I think perhaps giving the benefit of the doubt would be best. Basilisa Marie
I like the idea of having an automatic fiddler. It's like a verbal diaper to catch any accidents. But I also don't understand why Catholics would use profanity like the F-word on a Catholic forum, and would argue for the right to use that kind of language, and get angry when people argue that maybe they could work on modifying their own behavior instead of just relying on the fiddler.
Well, obviously not or he probably wouldn't have posted what he did. And truth be told, there's probably not such a right or wrong way of doing it. My opinion is that it should have been something handled in private as it was directed at a single person and concerning how that person runs this (his) website. I was expressing an opinion the same way the original poster expressed an opinion.
How would I have any idea what your email is? (And for the record, I was directing my childish statement at you specifically for giving up on contacting me privately about something; I, frankly, had no idea you weren't still defending the OP's OP. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Contacting any of us is not only possible but pretty easy with just a little poking around.)
