Which Communities Celebrate The Ef (at All) ?

As far as I have heard, "Anne a lay apostle" has approval (so far, it is ongoing) from her bishop in Ireland, http://www.directionforourtimes.org/about/churchs-position/ and his latest statement, http://www.directionforourtimes.org/new-statement-from-bishop-oreilly/

Sorry, I know this is also not a debate thread, but I feel like the information should at least be posted since it was brought up.

I appreciate your giving us a heads up here though, andibc. I feel strongly about receiving Holy Communion on the tongue, and would have a hard time I think in a community where receiving on the hand was the norm, though it is allowed by the Church, and I do not judge others that do. I used to also, and never knew there was any other option. I always think of Mother Teresa's statement about this when I reflect on it ..

Concerning your thoughts about communion in the hand and doing this in the past out of ignorance, I have done this as well. It would also be difficult for me to enter a community which received the Eucharist in the hand. I would be that annoying person always asking, "Why?" I would be sent home within the first week! :hehe:

I was cutting paper for my Sisters one time (for phone messages), and did not even look at what was on the other side. One Sister (two interact with me-Portress Sister and Sister Sacristan, and Mother of course) was very concerned that I knew that they did NOT read what was on the back of paper, and this was why it was used for scraps. Turns out it was something a lay person sends them on modern visionaries and mystics in the Church. She said that they did not condemn it, but that it was just not part of their charism. I was glad, as I like to steer clear of that kind of stuff. That is only my opinion, and anyone who likes to keep up with modern visionaries/mystics (as long as they are Church approved!) should speak up about this before contacting communities. It seems like such a small thing, but it's definitely better to find out in the parlor before entering than at recreation when Dear Mistress says, "That is not our charism."

Thanks for the info though, andibc. If I were discerning with the Capuchin Sisters, I would have found it very helpful.

So, random note, today I talked to a Cistercian priest--Fr. Ignatius Peacher-- from the Dallas monastery at UD about the Cistercian nuns in Wisconsin, to get his low-down about them, and Emmaberry came up in our conversation!

He was asking me if I've considered communities closer to home (Dallas, TX), and he mentioned the Roswell PCCs and I was like, "I know of someone who is entering there soon!" And he was sooo excited, and he asked "what's her name?!" And I said "Well, I only know her from an online vocations forum, but I think it's Emma." And he was like "Oh! Emma! Yes yes yes, I know her! We talked for like two minutes at UD awhile ago!" He said you have long blonde hair, which from your past icon, seems true.

So anyway, totes random, but totes exciting at the moment. Emma, you're famous! :hehe2: (And he thinks your sisters are razzle dazzle).

Father Ignatius (and ALL the Dallas Cistercians-seriously, they are wonderful!) is amesome. My friend is taking spiritual direction from him, and he is one of 'those' SDs. By 'those', I mean a legendary greatness kind of SD! He actually knows the novice making her vows on November 1st.

Thank you for letting me know TJMH! It is so funny how small the world is. :)

Did you like what he had to say about the Cistercian nuns? They have a great bond with them-I mentioned somewhere on the forum that the Novice Mistress came out for the new Abbot's induction. There was such a warmth between the communities. Anyway, best wishes for your discernment!

That is really the perfect position for cloistered nuns to have .. to not condemn them (unless the Church has of course!) but stick to their own charism. I know many people who have truly been touched and returned to the Sacraments from these writings and others, and I tend to be more on the side of not condemning/looking down on them (again, unless the Church has!) But I definitely wouldn't expect cloistered nuns to read them, or to really have heard much about them. They're at the heart of the Church already!

p.s. your Sisters using the papers for scraps shows another way they are faithful to their charism :like:

p.s. again - cool connection there TJMH and emmaberry! :proud:

Yes, from what I've heard, they have it sometimes, though how often that actually is, I don't know. A young woman from our parish is there, Sr. Mary Gertrude.

Here's a quick run down on Carmels.. without citing all sources/links

obviously the three Carmels of JMJ (Valp, Elysburg, Canyon) have it daily/all the time

Alexandria, SD - the last I heard was that they want to have it more often

Brooklyn, NY - also wants to have it more often, but I am pretty sure it is much less than Alexandria

Yes, it is normally only on First Fridays for the all night vigil at 8 pm and then 3 am, http://www.materdeiparish.com/schedule However, there are times when they will have a special one offered like for the clothing days, professions. They are very close with the Mater Dei community (FSSP) who used to have their Sunday Mass in their monastery chapel for like 20 years.

Des Plaines, IL has had one on First Saturdays since 1987

Littleton, CO - the FSSP priests from here, http://www.olmcfssp.org/cms/ have offered it in their chapel, but I am not sure how often

Morristown, NJ now has it weekly, every Saturday

San Francisco (Cristo Rey) has it, but I am not sure how often

This is all that comes to mind for now, but later I'll probably remember something else :topsy: Also all of these are 1990 except Cristo Rey & Philly

p.s. Philadelphia & Flemington have had it too, but I'm not sure how often. At one point Flemington was considering switching over to it completely, but decided not to.. again, not sure how often they have it now.

Actually just double checked that the other day and Des Plaines has had one on First Saturdays since 1984 :like:  It was an indult Mass back then. This is very much to their credit, as the TLM was not very popular back then. Remember Summorum Pontificum didn't happen until 2007. I think they were the only Carmel in the US for a while there with the TLM offered at all. I read somewhere online that they prefer the old Mass but want to have the same Mass the Holy Father offers. They are a traditional Carmel under the 1990 Constitutions. They have 18 currently, http://www.catholicnewworld.com/cnwonline/2012/1104/5.aspx

need to correct myself here  :getaclue:

Valparaiso has it always, except on Wednesdays for the reason given here (heard this is the present norm for them also)

Elysburg has it all the time

CA foundation has it most of the time it looks like, http://carmelites-of-canyon.blogspot.com/ maybe more regularly later as suggested here
