ToJesusMyHeart
Oh, the joys of my heart would abound if all masses were said ad orientem, with Latin prayers heavily used, and reception of Holy Communion in the manner our holy father prefers it! ToJesusMyHeart
Adding to my inquiry about EF celebrations, if you pholks know of any communities which celebrate the ordinary form, but have Communion rails in their chapel, and thus kneel for Holy Communion, I'd love to hear about such communities also. ACS67
Novus Ordo simply means "new order" which this Mass was (is). It was a "new" rite as Pope Paul VI even states. Here is a document I found on EWTN website. The Apostolic Letters by Pope Paul VI on the Vatican website have not been translated into English it would seem so posting his motu proprio from 1969 would be of no use. However, this one is rather succinct and opens a window into the mind of those who changed the liturgy. My opinion: Their intentions were good but the results were disasterous. Just my opinion. http://www.ewtn.com/library/PAPALDOC/P6691126.HTM And here is the document from Vatican II in regards to the liturgy. This document was primarily talking about the Tridentine Mass because that is the Mass that was still said in 1963. However, many argue that this document paved the way for the Novus Ordo. The changes had been in the works for some time. I don't want to get into a deep discussion here as this conversation belongs in the Debate section of PM. But I will say this, anyone and everyone owes it to their Faith to attend a Tridentine Mass at least once and not just attend, read the richness of the prayers, the liturgy, the Canon. Much of that is stripped away in the Novus Ordo along with the richness of the priesthood and the Church is now paying the price.
mantellata
"Novus Ordo" makes it sound like a completely new Mass which it is not. I also object to the fact that it is very often used pejoratively by people who would rather that the Church only use the Extraordinary form.... Or that there lacks beauty in the present form of the Mass. I also stand by what I said as I stand by how our present Holy Father - a great lover of the Extraordinary Form - would like us to refer to it..... as can be seen here: http://www.vatican.v...vescovi_en.html To quote specifically: In this regard, it must first be said that the Missal published by Paul VI and then republished in two subsequent editions by John Paul II, obviously is and continues to be the normal Form – the Forma ordinaria – of the Eucharistic Liturgy. The last version of the Missale Romanum prior to the Council, which was published with the authority of Pope John XXIII in 1962 and used during the Council, will now be able to be used as a Forma extraordinaria of the liturgical celebration. It is not appropriate to speak of these two versions of the Roman Missal as if they were “two Ritesâ€. Rather, it is a matter of a twofold use of one and the same rite. Okay - back to the topic at hand - communities that "think and feel" with the Church and so use the Forma extrodinaria without discounting the present Forma Ordinaria. They also sit/kneel on the floor for mass and prayer (the aspirants, postulants, and novices get a prayer stool to use).
