emmaberry
I love the barefooted-ness of the PCCs. If I felt called to a life in the cloister (which is so attractive, but I think my heart was made for active service), I'd likely be discerning with PCCs.
I have never seen anything more endearing than the tiny little barefoot Sister sacristan who comes out to prepare the altar before Mass. They are tiny because of the small amount of food they eat. Their barefooted-ness really brought home, at least to me, that the cloister is not of earth but of Heaven..that they are always in the presence of God. It's a beautiful vocation, but not for everyone. Of course, going barefoot would be kind of ridiculous in an active vocation! I'll say a prayer for your discernment. Their reverence to the Blessed Sacrament was endearing and I found myself wanting to be in that cloister with them. There are times where I wish that I had a cloistered vocation since a nun lives totally for God in the silence of the enclosure. I hold such respect for those who have such a vocation. Chiara Francesco
The Poor Clare Colettines of Minooka, IL (http://poorclaresjoliet.org/ and founded from Rockford PCCs) have the Traditional Latin mass said by the FSSP priests. On the other masses, they have the mass with a lot of Latin in the hymns, prayers, Liturgy, etc. Unfortunately, the week I visited them, there wasn't a Traditional mass day that week. I was pleased to see that not only is the Traditional Mass offered there once a month but also that a Divine Liturgy is also said there. Do all of the communities here have the EF Mass sometimes? I know the Dominican Sisters in Lockport, LA do. Also I can't find the reference there to the Cistercians in WI having the EF Mass. I should read it again more carefully..
ACS67
I was aware those orders had the Latin Mass. I know Regina Laudis/Our Lady of the Rock has the Novus Ordo in Latin (as do the Benedictine nuns in Vermont) but I not sure they have an EF. Clear Creek Sisters do, however, because they are attached to the Clear Creek Monks. David Mary does like to use Latin in the Mass, and their alter isn't free standing as you can see: ACS, FuturePriest, QD, do you know? ACS67
Hey Pax! No the Franciscans definitely do not use the EF. They use a sort of what I call "hybrid Mass" (Novus Ordo old school style ) as their Mass employs a lot of Latin and is also ad orientum (facing East), all male servers, no extraordinary ministers of holy communion, not even women lectors I don't believe (unless the nuns read), and receiving kneeling at the altar rail on the tongue and only under one species. St. John Cantius in Chicago does this type of Novus Ordo. It is quite nice.
