dominicansoul
...straight from the bottle, don't let it rest on your tongue, swallow it swiftly and allow it to leave a burning sensation from your throat, down your esophagus, and left to simmer in your stomach ...if you are a novice, you might get sick. Try having a bit of food before you take the first sip. Most russians will have vodka in tiny little chilled shot glasses, along with their meals. I think they believe it is a sacrilege to mix vodka with anything else...
dominicansoul
Oh, and don't forget to toast! ... toast the sun, the moon, the stars above your head, anything... but always, always, toast to something/someone while sipping on vodka ... Rotkirch
In my younger days I usually did just drink it out of the bottle or from a beer glass. Nowadays when I'm older and wiser I just mix it with red bull.

Nihil Obstat
I have read that the primary reason it is a bad idea to mix caffeine and alcohol is that the caffeine masks the alcohol effects, leading to a greater risk of alcohol poisoning. Unless you have a pre-existing heart condition, in which case heart issues do apply. Edited September 2, 2012 by Nihil Obstat
qfnol31
I drink vodka on the rocks when I'm in the mood. It really brings out the flavor not to mix it with anything else.
I have read that the primary reason it is a bad idea to mix caffeine and alcohol is that the caffeine masks the alcohol effects, leading to a greater risk of alcohol poisoning.
I am actually somewhat ashamed of the fact that I've never had Irish coffee. I must fix that this winter. I like coffee with Grand Marnier though. That is a nice drink if you want a bit of a kick in the teeth that is not straight liquor. Edited September 3, 2012 by Nihil Obstat

Have to say that Russia was the only place that I did that. Oh, yes, the toast. The toast to everything. Dominican Soul thank you for reminding me. Vodka and black bread, it is a beautiful thing.[/background]
