Chiquitunga
Praised be Jesus Christ! I just noticed this the other day, http://www.carmelite...g/monastery.htm They used to be in the St. Teresa Association, http://www.carmelnun...on/Loretto.html (perhaps they still are, not sure if that is possible) Their website: http://www.lorettocarmel.com/ I like how simple it is! Some links here, here , here & here They are under the 1991s, but are more on the traditional side being in the St. Joseph Association. I heard that from someone else a while back too. They do allow live-ins. Their chapel set-up is unique.. I've never seen one like that before. Their monastery was modeled, somewhat, after the Carmel in Lisieux. I read that in the book, Carmel in the United States, 1790 - 1990 Edited September 1, 2012 by Chiquitunga
Chiquitunga
p.s. some background, the St. Joseph Association is the most traditional of the four Carmelite associations in the US. Most of the Carmels in it are under the 1990s, except Santa Fe, Springfield, Philadelphia & now Loretto. Among other things, they do not have meetings outside the enclosure as the other associations do (not saying that is really bad, but they feel strongly about this.. that this is not according to the strict enclosure St. Teresa wanted)
OnlySunshine
Neat! I wonder if the Carmel in Denmark, WI will ever be part of the St. Joseph Association. When I was discerning with them, their literature only showed the postulants' faces, not the Sisters'. They appear very traditional even though they follow the 1991 Constitutions, as well. ACS67
Do the more traditional Carmels (1990) not have live ins? I thought Carmel was like the Poor Clares in this regard, which would mean they do not have live ins.

Valparaiso, Elysburg, Iron Mountain, Des Plaines, Lake Elmo.. also Cristo Rey (1991)
Do the more traditional Carmels (1990) not have live ins? Littleton, Alexandria & Louisville <-- all 1990. Hialeah, FL (1991) is discerning which association to enter or not according to here, http://www.ccacarmel...termichael.html Also, as long as I'm on the topic, I've posted this before, but the way to tell what Constitutions a particular Carmel follows is by going to the address list, http://www.discalced...ir&CodNacion=99 and the ones with the three stars *** are 1990. Georgetown has two ** because they are 1990 in all ways, but are under the Father General of the Order. Sorry if this all gets a little annoying! I just think it's good to have the information out there
Chiquitunga
Two more Carmels to add to the list of non-associated .. the new Canyon foundation & Wichita, KS (technically their mailing address is Valley Center) Edited September 4, 2012 by Chiquitunga
ACS67
Chiquitunga, What do you know about the Wichita Carmel? They would not be far from me (about 1-1/2 hour drive) I looked at their web site. They are trying to build a monastery it would seem.
I know a few random things on them :j Let me try to organize my thoughts and write more on them later. Yes, they are building a new monastery and they accept older vocations They are very unique in that they have Eucharistic adoration daily and throughout the day and night on Thursdays, as you can see on their new site (created and maintained by friends, they are not online) They also have a devotion to praying the full Rosary daily, two which they do while washing dishes. In other Carmels psalms are recited then with periods of silence .. some are just silent. Edited September 4, 2012 by Chiquitunga
