Maximilianus
Very interesting- I never really heard of the Dominican rite Mass. I wonder what the differences are from the Traditional Latin Mass. mantellata
The Dominican Rite Mass is LOVELY! .... I love how the celebrants (priest, deacon and subdeacon) all process in with their cowls up! The best part of course is simply that it is THE MASS.... The Sacrifice on Calvary made present.

inperpetuity
according to Fr. Z's combox, Father Augustine Thompson O.P. says that this spring he intends to offer the Dominican Rite Practicum at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology for all Western Dominicans friars.
I actually contacted Fr. Augustine awhile ago to ask him if there were any Dominican nuns planning on having this Rite of Mass in the future as I would like to join a community who has the EF exclusively. Unfortunately there is not. I do know of all of the ones that already exist which are very few in this country sadly, and I am discerning with one now, but it's hard when you know you are called to something which barely exists. Sr Mary Catharine OP
The Dominican Order at the 1969 General Chapter decided to change to the Roman Rite for several reasons, one being that by the time the Dominican rite went through the reforms of St. Pius X there wasn't too much about it that wasn't Roman. Since the Nuns are of the Order of Preachers they can't choose to change to the Dominican Rite on their own. Of course, they can have the Mass if they wish on occasion. I'm not sure if a Dominican monastery or priory could have the Roman EF exclusively. I never thought about it. We're not planning to have it at least in the near future. Probably it will happen but right now there is no talk about it. We do use our Dominican chant for whenever we use Latin and the chant.
mantellata
I know this is perhaps not for everyone - but I know in my own discernment, I always felt that as a spiritual mother - my arms should be as wide as the Church Herself, who I would try to image by God's grace. If our Mother the Church opens her arms to embrace more than just the EF exclusively, then I would want to do the same, so that I could love with the Church's own heart in order to wrap all Her children in it. Of course I've grown up with the ordinary form of the Mass and loved it - and I still do - as long as it is done with the reverence and respect that our Jesus' sacrifice demands..... I imagine it must be different with those who have had more experience with the EF.

As Mother said, "As Franciscans, we are too poor to hold onto the Latin Mass when the Church has given us something different." I found that 'poverty of spirit' so interesting...too poor to be particularly attached to anything the Church is not solely attached to itself. Too poor to invest any extra time or effort in having the EF celebrated, when the Church has declared the NO valid, and it is customarily 'the norm.' I don't mean to imply that EF-only Franciscans aren't actually Franciscan, or that EF-only communities are spiritually indulgent. There are so many different callings and communities... I just love the Roswell PCCs idea of utter poverty pertaining to all things.
