To Jesus Through Mary
Very interesting- I never really heard of the Dominican rite Mass. I wonder what the differences are from the Traditional Latin Mass.
NonNovi
Very interesting- I never really heard of the Dominican rite Mass. I wonder what the differences are from the Traditional Latin Mass.
The differences aren't that big. As far as I know the Dominicans have own prayers at the foot of the altar, they put wine and water in the chalice at the beginning of Mass, they read for example the gloria on the epistle side instead of in the middle of the altar, etc. etc. Just some rituals, gestures and places that are different. Mr Cameron
Isn't this great? The Carmelite Rite is still being offered as well as far as I know. A lot of religious orders have their own rites of offering the Mass, and they're starting to be revived.
+ recently saw an article about an OCarm Priest celebrating a Missa Cantata according to the Rite of the Holy Sepulchre and Church of Jerusalem (Carmelite Rite) and of course the Carmelite Monks in WY celebrate it daily. Here is a series of videos from 1960 showing an entire Solemn Mass in the Carmelite Rite (it's the 8 b&w ones towards the middle of the page): http://www.youtube.com/user/srtcan#p/u
Nihil Obstat
Very interesting- I never really heard of the Dominican rite Mass.
I would imagine that the most significant difference of the Rite itself would be the Propers, and the chant settings, since the Propers are what constitute the most characteristic part of any of our Rites. TheUbiquitous
No Last Gospel, also. (At least, they may do it by custom but historically they don't want to do it.)

Maximilianus
according to Fr. Z's combox, Father Augustine Thompson O.P. says that this spring he intends to offer the Dominican Rite Practicum at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology for all Western Dominicans friars.
