Communities That Have Study As A Central Part Of Their Charism...

I know that obviously the Dominicans have study as a central part of their charism.....

..... I have also come to appreciate the Sisters of the community of St. Jean who have a rigorous (and not just in the novitiate) commitment to the study of Sacred Truth....

I was wondering if any Phatmassers know of any other communities - particularly those of women - who have Theological and Scriptural study as central to their lives?

The Sister Servants of the Eternal Word study catechism courses for certification according to their website.

The Sisters take distance learning catechetical courses offered by the
Marian Catechist Apostolate, written by Father John Hardon,
to nourish their spiritual lives and to prepare them for
teaching the Catholic Faith in a non- classroom setting.

I'll do a search for others! :)

I think the Religious Sisters of Mercy have a very high focus on study, I believe all their sisters are educated to a very high degree although the fields vary.

Cisternians also: http://www.nunocist....acredstudy.html

Oh yes! Those Cistercians-especially the ones (not sure if I could call them 'monks') at Our Lady of Dallas place a large emphasis on the intellect. Some taught me at university, and they were outstanding.

Of course, this does break your 'women' rule, mantellata! Sorry about that. :)

The SSVM's study quite a bit; the Juniorate House of Studies is their next step after the novitiate, once they have professed First Vows.

I was trying to remember where I read that and I couldn't find it. I'm glad someone else did! :)

Yes, I was going to mention Benedictines.......almost all Cloistered Benedictines of both genders place an importance on study, not only with Lectio but in terms of ongoing research, writing and authorship etc.
