Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Pax domini bretheren, sympathiesers and others... What do you think jesus meant when he said this "my yoke is easy and my burden light."? I can only figure two things. That we are not a burden to him no matter how great or small our troubles are he want's them all, and if where doing this he lifts these from us and than we can see life and truth illuminated and that these are not bound by our human condition of sin. Onward christian souls. Jesus iz LORD. GOD is GOOD, GOD is LOVE, GOD SAVES. St Benedict. "prefer nothing whatsoever to christ." emmaberry
Well your first theory, while not wrong, does not really apply to what Jesus specifically says in this verse. Here he is referring to the those who wish to follow him and their carrying of his yoke and burden. The verse is not speaking of Jesus carrying our burdens, although he does this too. Jesus says that those who follow him will carry a burden, and they must take on a yoke, as they are servants to the Master. Jesus reassures us that, while we must take on these instruments of servitude in order to follow him, they are easy and light, respectively. In short, we cannot just run free. We must walk the path of Jesus as His willing servants, and take on His Will, though he assures us that it is not a heavy burden. Hope this helps. Here is an article that helped me in reference to your question: http://catholiclivingtoday.blogspot.com/2011/06/for-my-yoke-is-easy-and-my-burden-light.html
BarbTherese
Not unusual for the person who is not bearing the yoke and burden that following Jesus entails, to look from the outside in and regard it quite negatively and as a heavy one; however if the person actually bears that yoke and burden, it is indeed found to be very light and a happy, joy filled, burden and yoke.
To suffer joyfully with christ cruicied in the hope of heaven. This must be something learnt over time. Coz like jesus fell four times with the cross as an example yes. And the whole i am the vine and you are the branches is a growing thing, coz a vine grows with the sunlight, rain and soil and needs trimming and stuff, unless of course your st paul and i don't doubt there are saint paul conversion experiences out there.
