I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that is planning on going into any branch of the military either later this year or early next year. It would be kind of cool just so that we can talk about things that we are worried about and stuff like that or different things recruiters have told you.

I am planning to join either the Army or the Army National Guard. If I were to join full-time, for a short time, it would be the Army (hopefully to become a US Ranger). If it were to be part-time, and for probally my entire life, it would be the Army National Guard.

I graduate from High School in summer 2005, and I have no idea if I'm going to be joining right away, or if it'll be after college (Full Sail, it's a 1-year college, not 4 years). We should talk over MSN.

*unsolicited advice alert!*

I recommend joining as an officer. It's not easy being a grunt.

If you want to become a ranger, you'll have to attend Army Ranger Camp and there is a huge one right near my house. You'll have to come visit (but I don't think you get a lot of liberal leave if I'm not mistaken) - Ranger camp is supposed to be pretty brutal.

I am planning on either going into the Navy or the Marines. I just haven't decided yet. Well I thought I did in February but now I'm not so sure. I was planning on going into the Navy. I'm going to enlist in either July or August. I just have to wait to get off medications.

Just some advice study for the ASVAB. You want to score a 70 or above to have the choice of pretty much any job you want. I don't remember what the score that was needed for you to qualify for an officer but I can look inot that.

To join as an officer, you need a bachelors degree. This may sound daunting, but after a certain point, the military pays for it. Some of them even give you health insurance while your in school. If it's not too late, call your nearest ROTC representative. You won't regret it.

I'll bet it is! I grew up near an army base, and I remember seeing the soldier training just to get into rangers training. They jogged all over my home town with those duffle bags (and army duffle bags are big, y'all) full of who knows what. But it looked like cement. :P

My mother and my brother are both naval officers. Trust me. They treat officers WAY better. (Although military life is a unique calling for anybody).

the navy recruiter told me that you can get into the OTS if you have a high enough ASVAB Score.

One thing I've always wanted to do (but now I'm too old :( ) is get a commission in the Coast Gaurd. I think one you sign up to train as an officer in the Coast Gaurd, they give you a pretty big stipend, as well as complete health insurance. Plus they pay your way through the last two years of college. And then, once you get your commission, your obligation is relatively short term. Think about the coast gaurd, y'all. They are one of the most gung ho branches. (And one of the oldest, IIRC).

I would ask the ROTC rep and take his and only his word. But then...this is more unsolicited advice. ;)

Something you should know, Lil Bull, is that recruiters get a commission for new recruits. They get a pay bonus if you sign on. I grew up in an army town and I knew a few recruiters. They are nice people, but they are essentially trying to sell a product, and that's the military.

That's why I highyly recommend you get in touch with somebody from ROTC. You can call your local university, or look on their website. Find out before the recruiter sells you down the river!

Trust me...who wouldn't rather be a general than a sergeant?

My cosuin is entering the Naval Reserve, maybe, with a undergrade and MD. As an office and a good paycheck. Plus they repect his "on call" time. If you want to join a degree might be nice.
