Question For Ex-catholics

I've noticed a few people on this forum who are labelled "non-Catholic" but mention that they used to be members of the Church. We hear a lot about conversion stories, but maybe it would be interesting to hear your "de-conversion" story. Not for the sake of arguing but just so us Catholics can understand what things cause people to leave the Church.

One I've heard the most is: People.

Yeah, I can see that. It was the main reason I left Judaism. Looking back, it's not a good reason. But it's certainly understandable.

Doesn't have to be a good reason. Faith shows through the fruits and if you only deal with pricks from that particular religion than its hard to justify staying with that Faith.

I used to struggle sometimes with my own Faith, because of the other Catholics I came into contact with.

No he can't. That is a falsehood perpetuated by the Church.

95% positive Hasan is trolling again... ;)

This thread is a really good idea, though! I'd like to hear people's reasons. Can we all agree not to try to judge or correct, however? I want others to feel safe about telling their story without feeling like the Catholics will jump down their throats about it.

It's more like human nature will do it. Being Catholic has nothing to do with it.

Hasan wrote, like, an article, sometime ago explaining in depth why he left the Church. It included a whole bunch of stuff from Church Fathers I think, but I never really read it. Way too long. These days he has developed a passion for phatmassing under the influence so he probably doesn't even remember that he wrote it.

Basically, I'm not sure I ever really had this whole faith thing. I'm mean, I thought did. I was once quite a devote Catholic. As a teen I said my Rosary, went to Daily Mass, watched EWTN even thought I wanted to become a priest. But as I got older, my "faith" started to weaken slowly, and eventually I just suddenly thought to myself. "My God, I have been such a flooping didgeridoo my whole life. How can I be so certain that there even is a God?" That was a couple years ago I came to that moment.

These days I blame teenage hormones on it all. I understand that's not everyone's experience with the Catholic Church, and faith and I respect that, but that's where I ended up it.

Moral theology teaches that the number one reason why people are atheist (or leave the Church) is. . . .BAD CHRISTIANS!
[/quote]
That's a rather interesting reason. Why would someone leave the Catholic Church just because of "bad Christians". I mean, if you had faith wouldn't you be able to see that the Church isn't these "bad Christians"?

Two years ago I went to take RCIA, however I chose to go back to the United Church temporarily due to unresolved issues I had with certain church teachings. However I eventually was led back to Catholicism by God and will be completeing RCIA this year =). Relevance to this post, I left before because I was struggling between Protestantism and Catholicism, as my former church was almost the opposite of Catholicism, so some teachings were beyond my understanding and at times I blatantly disagreed without seeking to learn. Now that I have sought answers I feel happy about my choice to complete RCIA. It may have taken two years, but the journey was worth it.

I did write that. It was entitled My Fall from Grace or something stupid like that. I actually drunk phatmass much less than people think. I'm just naturally besotted and hilarious.
