nleyetn
I am helping a local Catholic organization edit their website. They would like to have the ability to receive donations on their website but do not want to use PayPal. It is a matter of principle because PayPal supports things that conflict with the Catholic Church, such as Planned Parenthood. Does anybody know of any good alternatives to PayPal that can be used where the company does not have ties to organizations that conflict with the Church. A Catholic/Christian based company would be ideal but not necessary.
Lil Red
for what you want, i don't know of anything. i don't think amazon payments will work, and indiegogo is more for limited time charity runs.
arfink
There really isn't anything out there that "just works" like Paypal does. Amazon Payments and Google Checkout are ok, but are really not designed for soliciting donations. Regardless of what payment supplier you chose, be aware that most credit card companies also support bad charities, and the fees you get charged to use online card payments will go to support such causes no matter what you do. I don't think you have any culpability for doing this, since there isn't a way to avoid it.
dUSt
The company who put PayPal on the "Planned Parenthood Boycott" list charges for their report (LDI International), and I have never seen any evidence of eBay (the parent company of planned parenthood) directly supporting Planned Parenthood. What they do is act as the middle-man via their "Giving Works" program. Just like PayPal, individuals and organizations use this program to get donations. In other words, just like Phatmass uses PayPal to process donations, so can a Planned Parenthood support group. Likewise with the "Giving Works" program. Customers of eBay would have to actively choose a pro-abortion organization to donate to, where eBay just acts as the processor of that donation. It's kinda the same as someone using a check from their Wells Fargo bank account to donate to Planned Parenthood. Would that justify a boycott of Wells Fargo? Of course, if you have better evidence, please let me know.
dUSt
Oh, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos just donated $2.5 million to support gay marriage, so scratch Amazon off the list too, unless you are like me, and think that civil laws regarding marriage have nothing to do with a valid sacramental marriage, so I could care less. nleyetn
Thanks for the feedback all. I'm afraid there isn't going to be a nicer solution like we were hoping for. I'll let them know about the info you've given me here and see what they want to do for their site.
Gabriela
We should start a Catholic payment processing service and call it "J-Pal". ;-)
