PhuturePriest
I was tempted to make a joke about Dominicans, I'll let those book-loving Dominicans have their Novices with a free pass this time. Next time, though... But really, this is cool. They aren't Franciscans, but they are almost as good.
AnneLine
Western Province of the Dominican Friars has August 15 as 'arrival date' for the new baby dominicans, but they don't get their habits until early September. Still seems a little unfair that the WOMEN Dominicans have to wait through a year's postulancy.... just saying...... but I think that in some ways if one does try the life and realize it isn't right for him/her, then it would be harder to take the habit off.... so there's a lot to be said both ways..... Praying for all of them!
Lisa
The Central Province Dominicans have 7 pre-novices; they should receive their habits tonight. I'll post a picture once they're up!

AnneLine
Judging from the BLOG entry from the Dominican Nuns in Menlo Park California (SF Diocese), appears we have about 8 guys getting ready to be vested in the west. (But that probably includes some from the Southern Province as we have been 'fostering' them last few years....) Here are some pix.... and the link to the whole story & more pix! Lisa
This page says 6 (and provides a bit of background information). I bet the two brown ones are for the Southern Province brothers! Lisa
Btw, I love your source of news; what a beautiful community!!!!! St. Dominic knew that the friars would need the nuns' prayers- and to keep them in line!

AnneLine
Very good catch yourself, Lisa... I checked the OPWest website but didn't think of their Facebook page. (I must be the ONLY person not on phacebook....) Looks like they have also announced the profession of the 4 current novices.... http://www.opwest.org/2012/08/First-Profession Hard to say if the black or brown rosaries mean a particular province... I've seen the California dominicans in both..... may just depend on which sent of oh... 170 beads the nuns have handy on a given day.... multiply that by 8 or 9 and... well, yes, you don't end up with a PINK rosary, but you can get some interesting combos... and a WIDE variety of crucifixes & crosses, too! They do have many years of formation after first vows... but a fair number tend to leave either as novices or temp professed. So... perhaps more of a Postulancy might be helpful, but it is their decision to make. I know that both the Franciscans and the Discalced Carmelites out in the West have a postulancy of about 6-9 months... the poor guys with the carmelites have these sad black suits and black ties and name tags... used to be a white shirt until people started mistaking them for Mormon missionaries... so they switched it to blue dress shirts..... almost as bad as the women's postulant outfits, right Lisa? AnneLine
You are lucky to uh, have been able, uh perhaps, to model it for them! Judging from my own experience in a blue jumper and jacket and white mantilla veil that kept getting caught on my guitar or sailing into the center of choir every time I bowed during the Liturgy, one longs for the habit for more than one reason.... ... unless, of course, God has other things planned.... But is is all good!!!!! Edited August 16, 2012 by AnneLine
