I Seriously Confused An Emhc Today . . .

I usually put my hands behind my back when I receive :).

Also ... just say "communion on the tongue." No need for a new acronym.

This is why I walk around and get in the priest's line. Three bad experiences with EMHCs were plenty for me. (Note: I don't mind EMHCs, just bad ones! ;)) Thankfully, all my EMHC friends are really good, but they don't go to my church.

Maybe it's just the Assumption throwing people off. I just came from Mass and nearly didn't receive Holy Communion because the EMHC was confused after I bowed first as to whether he was supposed to give me the Eucharist or not. :|

Yeah I bow too and I think that throws people off a lot as well.

We don't have the resources for that. We need the EMHCs.

The vast majority of parishes really don't. Having to wait an extra 5-10 (or even 20 *GASP* for large parishes) minutes does not necessitate EMHCs.

we definitely didn't need the same amount of EMHC's this morning as we usually do on a Sunday morning, that's for sure.

I try to time my bow while the person in front of my is receiving, for minimal off-putting-ness. I also prefer to receive on the tongue, but no one at my parish at school does that, so...well, receiving on the tongue doesn't matter enough for me to chance an awkward situation. But if I'm receiving from a priest, I figure they'd better be equipped to deal with hands or tongue. :)

Probably because it'd be SUPER AWKWARD for a priest to be picking up a dropped host off of a woman's...person. And men don't have as many...surfaces...on which a consecrated host could land... :hehe2:

I have found that parishes with large Latino communities tend to have EMHC that can handle COTT. When I joined my current parish, they used intinction for the precious blood, so all EMHC did COTT. Our bishop decided to ban intinction, so some of the new EMHC aren't so good at COTT, but they will learn.

Only clergy are permitted to perform intinction, so it is good that your bishop banned it if EMHC's were doing it.

FYI. Altar rails make communion go so much faster

Ditto here on trying to time it. The guy in front of me was in a hurry though; he was out of the parish as soon as he could after that. And I totally get you on awkward; this one time a woman in front of me actually went down to full genuflect so I came to a pause and the line nearly bowled me over! So yeah, usually do the hand also.

There needs to be some kind of "mega-prop" option.
