Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
i have been examine my concience and induldging in the holy word, paticularily ecclisiasticus at present. Now i'm not one of those dudes that remembers exact chp and vrse numbers so please bear with me. Here tis, in ecclisasticus it says a father is to beat his son. Now taken on face value it's horrifying and seems more like something evil, please bear with me. What if this beat is not meaning to beat the child with a fist or stick etc etc but to beat his child like in a soccer match. If the child is argumentative that is i assume. get this right. -|-AC-|- -|-ICKLE () LAW FAIR , we gotta really think long and hard as to some of the meaning of scripture and give the father a bit of a tickle wrestle and he will give you the answer. Truely. Particularily if your participating of the holy sacraments worthily and participating in the holy mass, and praying and meditating daily. KnightofChrist
It is not referring to a defeat in some game. It means the father spanks the child.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
It is not referring to a defeat in some game. It means the father spanks the child.
Thats another verse you may be thinking of perhaps ? I'm not anti spanking but i'm anti beating more than a quick slap with an open hand, and if you bruise that child physically and emotionally i will let GOD be your judge, because i don't know, as we would say in australia "Just having a go." Surely it has to be hell seriouse if even giving an open hand spank once or twice, and surely the child has to be talked to immediatly afterwards for 5 minutes or something about why he had just incured the worse of all punishments, and than when is the child at an exceptable age to spank? KnightofChrist
I know the verse you're talking about. It isn't talking about violently beating the son but something like spanking or whipping the son. A better translation would be chastise. Because while it would include things likened to spankings and whippings it would also include verbal means and other non-physical punishment. Ecclesiasticus 30:1 "He that loveth his son shall chastiseth him, that he may rejoice in his latter end, and not grope after the doors of his neighbours." Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
I didn't mean what i said to sound like a game for fun, i'm talking world cup soccer, it's pretty much do or die. You loose the game and you loose your son. But still i believe it is a matter of if your son is arguing a point of seriousness that you must not let him walk away without second guessing his behaviour. With a very serious matter 1 smack may be nescisary but it must be followed with words of wisdom and love, mercy and discipline. And even than what age can the smack be bought in and what age does it become unexceptable and a matter between the child and the lord. After confirmation possibly, when the child has the oppurtunety to goto confession, where we introduce just saying to them what we think and if still in disagreement saying "you may wan't to take that to confession son and talk to the priest about this." I would like to continue talking about this because i'm sure there is more to it than my feeble thinking and feelings due to my state of affairs with some sins.I read also in ecclesiasticus that it is better to have never raised children than to have raised bad children. If i am to have children ever or even counsel others in such matters i need to find the truth on such matters.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Are you an elder of the church Knightofchrist in the biblical sense, because in one of his letters st paul states that to qualify as an elder of the church that person must have children that are of age are still practising the faith. Unsure exactly what of age is and as to whether you can have 2 children practising and 3 not practising, because 2 out of 5 is still gramatically children.
