Taize?

As long as everyone is in a music-debating mood....

What is your take on Taize...
1. for use as a separate service, such as incorporating into a Holy Hour?
2. for use during Mass?

My totally uninformed opinion here, but I find it to be beautiful. I don't know if it would belong in the Mass, but I've seen it offered in a seperate Lenten service on evenings where other things aren't scheduled.

I love their music. There are Taize Masses, and my friends who have attended one loved the music. It was very reverent and the hymns were perfect.

Hasn't the new spirituality movement hijacked taize prayer. I did taize prayer once, while on a retreat. It seemed to be too much like centering prayer. I did not like it. That said, I have no idea if what we did was authentic taize prayer.

I think both are appropriate, providing the lyrics aren't a problem.

"Jesus, Remember Me" is a Taize song. I hate it because we sang it 6,000 times in undergrad, but as a whole I think Taize is lovely. Great for meditation.

Ditto on liking it, I just laughed really loud at that. It was the perfect funny comment for the thread!

From my what I have experienced, the songs are always very repetitive, but it is always at least a whole sentence (I think "centering prayer" might be a single word/phrase, but I'm not sure). It IS meditative, but kind of reminds me more of the repetition in praying the rosary or the divine mercy chaplet and less like a "mantra" precisely? I dunno if that made sense...

What this fellow said. As a freshly minted Catholic, I've noticed the name here and there,
