Haha, I love what you do with it!

I'm glad it arrived safe and sound.

I'll have more stuff coming up folks! I got plastics in stock now, and I'm going to begin experimenting with them in the coming week. Also I have begun construction of my web store, from which you may order swag once it is completed.

As for special orders and commissions and stuff, I'm always open to that kind of stuff. Just PM me!

Or just go over to your house, in my case!

Reading about geo-caching was a very intersesting experience, USAirwaysIHS.

(orange and blue, of course - God's favorite colors)

I take it that is a sport reference local to the USA?

Yes. They're the school colors of my alma mater.

Got an ambitious new design to try out on the laser:

This one has multiple engraving depths across multiple paths which are mixed with close cuts. Should be interesting one way or another. I'm hoping it works.

Keep the orange, get rid of the blue....(I wish our SEC college days would have overlapped, would've been fun)

Orange and blue were the colors where you went to grad school.

Indeed, but I have more loyalty to where I went to undergrad.

Will you be making one like you showed me before, without the bursts around the outside? I'd like to see one like that as well. Even if you didn't do it on plastic...

I can certainly do both. And if you like it a lot I'd be happy to send you one too. :)

For some background on why I had arfink make this: I am a casual geocacher (google it, it's pretty razzle dazzle) and wanted a personalized (and cheap) bauble to leave behind. I had him make this so that it could be stamped into clay (orange and blue, of course - God's favorite colors) which had been inlayed in a cap of one of my bottled beverages of choice (pictured is the top to a bottle of Angry Orchard - if you're a cider fan, I recommend it). It incorporates my "callsign" and its meaning. Above is a sample outcome. Looks pretty good methinks.

That's amesome, UAIHS. Love geocaching, and love that bauble.

So I did some more experiments with multi-pass engraving. This time instead of doing multiple passes with the same design, I engraved down one layer, then changed the pattern and engraved deeper in different places. The effect is very razzle dazzle looking in wood. Next I will try in acrylic.

I did one in some pale blue transparent acrylic. The photos cannot do it justice, or at the very least I'm not a very skilled camera operator. The plastic holds details extremely well, and the laser produces extremely crisp lines and cuts with flame polished edges. Looking through the side of the piece is like looking into an icy kaleidoscope. It's amazing.

How do you make the machine understand the depth to which you want it to burn?

Since the piece is transparent/translucent, try taking a photograph with the object illuminated by backlighting. Maybe it will bring out the features better?

The wood one looks very burnt to me? It might be the shading and the lighting, but when making so many passes over wood to cut so deep are you noticing that it's charring the wood a little more?
