arfink
Today I tried making some stamps with the laser. I didn't have any rubber for making a rubber stamp, so I made a wooden block stamp. The wood was less than ideal because it absorbs the ink and the grain shows up in the resulting print, but it worked OK overall. Also, the depth of cut leaves something to be desired, but that's an easier thing to fix. Later on I plan on doing a wax seal or signet ring in acrylic, and if I can find a reasonably priced source for natural rubber sheets, rubber stamps. ConfusedCatholicGuy
I am the first in line to get a signet ring (or pendant, or whatever). Arfink made the mistake of cutting the first stamp backwards, because as we all know, stamps have to be the mirror image of what you want to be stamped. Well, we all learn someway, I guess. Vincent Vega
How much would a signet type deal be? I've been needing a stamp about the size of a bottlecap for a small project I've had in mind for a while. What would something like that run me? arfink
Well, it depends on how many you want and how much of the design work you did yourself. I haven't got real prices for my business nailed down yet (lucky you) so I'd be quite flexible for you. Also I don't have any acrylic in stock, so it might take a bit to get something like that made for you. But I would definitely do it.
Vincent Vega
Well it doesn't need to be pretty...I'll continue in pm so as to not disrupt the flow of the conversation.

Innocent
I have this doubt: after you engraved the boundaries of the letters in your name, how did you remove all the wood surrounding the characters?
arfink
I have this doubt: after you engraved the boundaries of the letters in your name, how did you remove all the wood surrounding the characters?
The machine did that for me. I can program it to remove all the surrounding material too, which is what I did here. I managed to find the right combination of speed and power to do this pretty cleanly without producing large amounts of scorching or varnish and it required very little cleanup afterwards except on the very edges, which I did with a file and an abrasive sponge. ConfusedCatholicGuy
You should see arfink when he gets a new idea for using the laser. He sort of flounces around and then spews techo-babble until my eyes glaze a bit then goes and tries it. This has happened at least four or five times today.
