Tridentine Carmels

I wonder why this new Carmel in the Oakland diocese does not move in to the empty Carmelite monastery vacated in Kensington when those few elderly nuns moved to Cristo Rey Carmel in San Francisco. Kensington Carmel was very traditional, so the set-up for a strictly cloistered observance is there already. The Kensington community was never large, so I am not sure if it would hold a full 21-nun community but it might be an option more consistent with their life than how the current place seems.

Just a few thoughts- perhaps they already considered and rejected this option.

A friend of mine from our parish entered Elysburg on July 13th. Her name is "Sr. Rebecca". She was beaming with joy the day before she left. Please pray for her.

A former PMer entered there on December 12th, 2010. I cannot, for the life of me, remember her religious name, but her s/n here was In the Arms of the Lord. She and I were email buddies before she left and she was so sweet and humble. She had a beautiful spirit. This was the second community she was in close contact with and is currently a 2nd year novice. :)

ETA: her religious name might be something like Sr. Regina Marie. I can't remember...

I am 99% sure they did. 1) They were planning on going to the Diocese of Oakland a few years ago but something fell through and then they were invited to Elysburg 2) One of their aims/hopes in their new foundations is to revive old Carmels (which is very much in the spirit of St. Maravillas of Jesus, who reclaimed some places special to the Order, like Duruelo, where St. John of the Cross once lived) 3) A couple years ago, I emailed the people at this place, http://laep.ced.berk...du/blakegarden/ right next to the Kensington monastery .. and they told me the monastery is being cleaned out for a new Carmelite community to move in!

Who knows what happened regarding why they didn't go there, but I did hear from another source that the building is in ill repair. I wonder what will happen with it now.. Here's the most recent on it, What's up with the Kensington monastery?

I keep telling God that if I win the lotto, I will buy it and create a Carmel for some of us older women who haven't been able to find a Carmelite monastery home yet.

So far, God has not taken me up on this offer. And yes, I did buy a ticket!

In France, we've got one Carmel with frequent Traditional Mass, it's the Carmel of Alençon (Therese's place of birth). The prioress is a very good carmelite nun. They've got the Traditional Latin Mass 3 or 4 times a week. They're doing what they can. They have full traditional habit, and the 1990 constitutions.

I'm not counting the several Carmels of the SSPX that have daily Traditional Latin Mass, of course. ( :saint2: )
