It's interesting because the way I see it is , if you can see yourself living that charism and spirituality for the rest of your life , it's most likely where you are being called. Though I still don't know if I'm being called 100% at this point in time due to a health impediment, but my desire is there. And I believe if it's Gods will, it will happen eventually.

It's funny how sometimes you just know your spirituality. I was the same with the Benedictines.

That was also my thought, to be a Carmelite. But it seems it's not the order for me. It's good to be open to different orders. :) I became to love the Franciscan spirituality. :saint2:

When I first started discerning, I thought I was 100% certain that I was called to be a Carmelite. Then, I fell in love with the Franciscans. Then the Dominicans. I'm currently discerning with an order that is not part of any of those spiritualities. They are very focused on the Eucharist and are Trinitarian. :)

The great thing about the order I am discerning (if I do enter, God-willing) is that I don't have to pick just one. The Sisters allow each Sister to practice her favorite devotions within reason. They are a very balanced order with contemplative prayer and active apostolate. Hopefully, I'll be able to reveal the order soon. I'm waiting for the Provincial Superior to receive the results in the mail of my psychological evaluation and make the determination pertaining to whether or not I will be able to continue the aspirancy process. Please keep me in your prayers and I'll keep you in mine! :nun1:

I have been told that the Carmelites in Des Plaines, IL are very orthodox. I believe they have the Latin Mass said there once a month.

Are the only legitimate Tridentine Carmels Valpareiso and Elysburg? Is there also one in Wisconson? What about the one in the UK?
Just posting this again, but yes the three legitimate Carmels with the EF Mass exclusively are Valparaiso, Elysburg & the new foundation in Canyon, CA. The only international one I have heard of that comes close to that is the Carmel in Alencon, France (birthplace of St. Therese) that has the EF Mass every Sunday.

I ask because I have gained a sudden pang of interest and desire. The Valpareiso and Elysburg Carmels are over their capacity with nuns and I have a feeling they will stop taking women soon. I cannot apply for a couple of more years due to a health concern.
Both Valparaiso and Elysburg are still accepting vocations :) Valparaiso is over it's capacity, yes (even after sending nuns to CA) but they are still accepting new candidates. Elysburg has around 15 nuns and is definitely accepting more too .. actually I heard that on July 13th, Feast of St. Teresa of the Andes  both Valparaiso and Elysburg received a new postulant.

About the new foundation in Canyon, CA I heard from the father (via email) of one of the Sisters there that they will not be accepting postulants for "some time" as they are still very much getting settled and still not 100% sure on building a monastery there. A recent post by him, http://cal-catholic....e/#comment-4291

Wow, that new foundation sounds difficult for the nuns. I hope they can make it work. It can't be easy to transition into a life that is totally different than what you were accustomed to in the other monastery. California, with all its secularism, can definitely use more prayers, so I hope they are able to stay. They will be in my prayers.

Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it. I
will write a letter in the next few days. I don't know if it's too soon to write though considering
I'm not able to join till approximately at least 2
years. I don't know. The whole idea just gets me so excited though I can hardly contain myself
!!!!:)
Do you know if they have a no debt policy? I have a education debt but the Government stipulates that it's not required to be paid back until you earn over $46,000 per year.

And yes, the Carmelites in California are certainly doing it pretty tough at the moment. God bless them. Will keep them in my prayers.

I don't know if it's the same in the US but in the UK our student loans are like that - you have to earn a certain amount before you have to pay it back - and communities here accept entrants with student loans because they'll obviously never make the earning amount.

Personally, I don't think it will hurt to get in contact with them, even if an entrance isn't going to be immediate. When I first contacted the community I'm discerning with I had a year and half before I would be able to enter, even now my potential entrance date isn't for another year at least. Even just investigating a community can be very helpful in discernment - as Mother Mistress told me, it can help bring your discernment from the abstract into the concrete.
