Are the only legitimate Tridentine Carmels Valpareiso and Elysburg? Is there also one in Wisconson? What about the one in the UK?

The only exclusively EF sisters that I know in the UK are the contemplative Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate down at Lanherne. I don't think there are any Carmels in the UK that have it on a regular basis. The UK's most traditional Carmel is probably Sheffield, but to my knowledge they have Mass in the ordinary form. I don't know whether this is out of preference or due to the unavailability of priests who are able and willing to celebrate Mass in the EF.

I ask because I have gained a sudden pang of interest and desire. The Valpareiso and Elysburg Carmels are over their capacity with nuns and I have a feeling they will stop taking women soon. I cannot apply for a couple of more years due to a health concern.

Ok thanks for letting me know. The Californian Carmelites are apparently not in Communion with Rome I have been told. I looked up the Texas Carmelites but it didn't say anything about the Latin Mass :(

California is a big place, and there are several traditional communities that are VERY MUCH in union with Rome in California.

Can you give us a location? Cristo Rey is traditional, and has both forms; the in-process-of-being-founded-by-Valparaiso Carmel in Moraga will be traditional (not sure but probably only EF), and there are several Carmels in th elower part of the state that are full habited (but not sure about mass preferences/options).

Additionally.... a gentle suggestion.... when God is ready for you, the right place will open. Just be at peace and see what God has in plan for you....

AnneLine- yes youre very right. Patience is the key. I just wanted to investigate due to curiosity. I just want to do whatever God wills for me and I'm willing to do whatever that may be.
Thank you all for the replies.
Ps- I'm willing to go anywhere if I'm being called. I am particularly desiring to be a Carmelite. :)
And I am interested to consider if I have a vocation, whether it's to a Carmel that celebrates the Latin Mass.

Valparaiso is running over with vocations. They established a monastery in Elysburg, PA in 2009 and now have a foundation in Oakland, CA. I'm not sure if Oakland is accepting vocations at present since they are brand new, but it's worth looking into if you feel called to such a life.

Thanks so much for letting me know about the Oakland Carmel. We'll see how this all pans out over time, but I'm very happy to see they are expanding :)

If you're looking for EF but willing to look other than Carmel you could look at the Benedictines of Mary.

Thanks but I'm pretty set on my desire to be a Carmelite. I did think about other Orders but it didn't feel right for me. When I first desired to become a nun when I was 19 , it was to be a Carmelite. Also I love their spirituality and their Saints and my patron is St Therese. :)

Kirk Edge has Novus Ordo and they rely on the Diocese to provide them with a priest so they have different ones all the time.

St Helen's is also a 1990 Carmel in the UK (traditional) but none of the UK Carmels have the Latin Mass.

Wolverhampton is very traditional for a 1991 Carmel, probably one of the more traditional ones, as they have the full traditional habit and still refer to the Prioress as Mother, whereas many of the others call the Superior Sister and/or wear a more modified habit. Wolverhampton has their own Chaplain. The current one sings most of the Mass (in English) but he is leaving next week and there will be a new one (who used to be secretary to the Archbishop) but I haven't heard him celebrate Mass yet so I don't know how he does it (although it will be in English).

I have been told that the Carmelites in Des Plaines, IL are very orthodox. I believe they have the Latin Mass said there once a month.

It's funny how sometimes you just know your spirituality. I was the same with the Benedictines.

That was also my thought, to be a Carmelite. But it seems it's not the order for me. It's good to be open to different orders. :) I became to love the Franciscan spirituality. :saint2:
